FrontPage22, congratulations on your L.A.X. finds and others. I enjoy my L.A.X. album. The lady on the cover of mine is not wearing any clothes. But I meant I enjoy the music. But I didn't mean I hate the cover.

JUSt found a relatively good copy of their debut "Under Cover Lover" today (sadly, NOT the DJ only double pack!!! but like I would in Toronto eh?). Great to finally have the 7 minute version of "Dancin At The Disco"!!! I know "All My Love" was bigger" but for me, nothing beat "Dancin'..."for sheer late-era disco goodness! The intro is moody and the woman singin "Let's make love tonite...underneath the disco lights..." makes this tune classic. Too bad the chorus makes the song a little on the dated side....dunnof I could ever play it somewhere without feeling a tad guilty!!!
Hope this siong hasn't fallen through the cracks and some people out there enjoy it!!!
PS-I also got a copy of Paradise Express's 12" "Dance" and Grace Jones "Muse"!!! Good shopping trip for me!

Nice to see some love for L.A.X....and no, the woman on the cover is (shock...!!!) naked except fors ome stylish boots, good eye makeup and a ponytail. A classic disco LP cover if you ask me... :)
I always liked "Dancin' At The Disco."...I even have the 12" on MP3 on my computer.
I always enjoyed the lead singer's line about "we're gonna have big fun".There's never anything wrong with big fun.

Hey FrontPage22, where did you find these things? Cosmos?
On the cumputer? I got it on WinMx. ON vinyl I found it at Monster Records on Yonge Street Torono, just south of Bloor.![]()
I mean vinyl. There aren't a lot of places in this city that sell disco on vinyl...
Monster is near where I live. They don't have much, but I have found a few interesting things there. Recently I picked up the Barrabas LP for $8, which is a lot less than what Cosmos wanted for it. :)
Also try Paradise Bound on August Street, south of College near kensington...excellent little stash of disco and a few 12" singles (I bought Grace's "Fame" there as well as Paradise Express' "Dance"/"Poinciana" 12" single in it's wrapping there)
I was at Cosmos last night and they have the 2x12" edition of "Under Cover Lover" for $10. However, it only has 5 tracks.
Where is Cosmos...I have never been. Maybe next pay I'll go....that is a find.
Cosmos is on the south side of Queen W, just east of Bathurst. This is the place to go in this town for funk, disco, jazz, and soul. Only thing is, they can be very expensive (example: debut Lowrell LP for $55). In all fairness, the owner travels all over to buy records, and gets plenty of stuff that we would simply never see here otherwise.
The L.A.X. disc in on the bottom shelf, along with the (relatively) cheap LPs. Careful looking at the disco and funk 12"s, they're tempting but beyond my humble means.
Thanks for letting me know about Paradise Bound. They aren't in the white or yellow pages, so I wouldn't have known they existed (even though I live a 15-minute walk away from there). Surprisingly good selection given how small the store is. I dropped $100 on disco vinyl there today :)
If you took the Supremes disc with High Energy you're sooo not my friend;-)
The owner is fab...the only thing is the singles selection could be better.
Does Cosmos have a dedicated 12" section???
Nope, wasn't me. In fact... I don't own a single Supremes record. Do I lose my queer licence for that?Originally Written by FrontPage22
True, but I still found plenty of goodies. The owner is fab...the only thing is the singles selection could be better.
Yes. Several, in fact. (Disco/House/Hip-Hop/80s pop)Does Cosmos have a dedicated 12" section???
I am so there next weekend...
Did you snatch up the T Connection & Laura Taylor singles?
Nope. I have the Laura Taylor, and I think I have the T Connection (in any event, it's easy to find).Originally Written by FrontPage22
But I did scoop up the Hodges, James & Smith amongst many others :)
Which H,J&S did you find?Originally Written by Graham Start
"What Have You Done For Love"/"The San Francisco Rag". I found the "Since I Fell For You/Falling In Love"/"Don't Take Away Your Love" 12" at Cosmos a few weeks earlier. I remember this one from your most excellent mix.
Did these guys do any albums, or just singles? This stuff is niiiice.
Toronto doesn't have many stores that sell disco on vinyl? Is that because people who own disco on vinyl don't sell them or because used music stores don't buy them? How about Quebec? I was wondering if much disco on vinyl is available there, since that's where Unidisc is located.
Hey Cory
I am from Montreal and there are many used record stores in this city.A few of them have closed in recent weeks but we still have many.
I see huge selections of disco records in different stores. Some of them like Beatnick,Au 33 Tours and Primitive (all in Montreal) offer great finds. Some are a little expensive (I've mentioned the B-H-Y Lp offered at $35 at Primitive before). Many other exist (2 on St-Laurent boulevard - but I can't remember the names at the moment. In fact - I've never even noticed the names - I'm so used to going that I do it by heart !!
And I'm not mentioning the many independant stores offering stuff for as cheap as 99 cents (specially the disco/soul stuff at Colisee Du Disque) - you have to dig deep but it's worth it sometimes.
As far as Unidisc is concerned - You would think that it would be easy to find the CDs but it's not always the case. I've had to order them at Archambault (one of the main record store still operating) and pick them up there. And they are roughly $22 each.
I have had the chance to come across many of the Unidisc compilations and original CDs in used record stores, though. I collect them so whenever I see one - I jump on it.They are usually sold at around $8.
