    Cher "Take Me Home"

Muchy derided it would seem, as it's "Cher" but as I was listening to it again for the 100'th time;) how superb it is! Classic 1979 disco. Esty outdid himself on the production. The strings, intro, middle breakdown with that tight bass work and vocals layered lightly over it, the climax and the "I wanna go home with you..I wanna go home with you...." outro are all perfect! Just wish this song got the respect it deserved and a maybe a little more airplay in clubs!!!

Cher's other disco cuts fail to measure up, though I like "Say The Word", "Wasn't It Good" and the fun "Bad Love".

I agree - "Take Me Home" is inspired 1979 disco - too bad the album couldn't be more consistent (although the cover is a classic in and of itself). "Wasn't It Good" was under-rated; a nice follow-up (especially the 12-inch version). Esty did a nice job.

"Hell On Wheels" was cute, and I expected more of her pairing with Giorgio ("Bad Love").

At least, she still sings "Take Me Home" in concert - it's not a complete embarassment.

I know when it came out I was kinda luke warm to it. Maybe because it was share and that skewed my view of the song. Anyway I too have a new found appreciation for that song.

Whip me 'til I puke, but I STILL prefer Sophie Ellis-Bextor's cover (for no other particular reason that I love her voice)

Believe it or not, I like that song. However, it's the only Cher song that I like.

The 12" Mix Versus The Album Mix

A good friend mentioned he didn't understand how the LP mix and 12" mix differed. I had no idea a seperate album mix existed until I took out my Magnum Opus CD and listened to the 6:43 Album cut and noticed how different the two mixes are. There are some vocal adlibs right when the song breaks down to the bassline that are unique to the LP mix and it sounds as if a snip or two were made to the outro, along with some layering of the vocals being different. Can anyone shed some more light into the two mixes for me? I think I actually rather like teh LP mix more!!!

I have to agree with Paul, I didn't really give Cher a chance during this time... I only liked the 12" mix.... I used to hear the 7" version and would change the channel... However, when I bought the 12" during Casablanca's reissues... I liked it more :D

    The 7" Mix

The 7" mix does nothing. Yuck! I dislike edits to begin with but this one is so obviously a hacked 12" it's not funny. The 12" plays out the concept of the song better too....the whole "pick up/going home" thing....someday, I'mm gonna play this song in a set !!! *dreams**

    Take Me Home-Cher

I was in Philadelphia when Take Me Home came out. It was played on WCAU-FM disco 98 and I liked the record from the begining.

Around that time, Barry Manilow did Copacabana and Edgar Winter (or was it his brother Johhnny?) had a disco song and I liked those too, though they sounded artificial or contrived and Cher sounded natural as a disco singer.

About two months later, WCAU-FM was playing The Grateful Dead doing Shakedown Street and I shook my head and thought oh no, this does not belong on a disco station. Then I heard it at work on WMMR (album rock) and it sounded better with the classic rock songs than with the disco.[/i]

Glad to see there's still love for the song. As much as I enjoy "Wasn't It Good' for fun dance muzak..it pales. "Take Me Home" is classic. :) Way to be Cher...and she's finally singing it ALL on tour, not just a little medley bit!!! Embracing 1979 finally.
