The ones I know of were all quite popular - 'Gone, Gone, Gone' and 'Begin The Beguine' from 1979 - and 'Simple' from 1984.
    :D

Johnny's version of "Life Is A Song Worth Singing" produced by Thom Bell from 1974 (before Teddy P.'s version) might also count.

Isn't there a rumor about an unfinished or unreleased Johnny Mathis album produced by the CHIC organization?

    oh wow!!

looks as though there SHOULD HAVE been a disco only LP released by Johnny Mathis .

Besides GONE GONE GONE and BEGIN THE BEGUINE ,

check out these other disco renditions by Mathis from 1979:

    THAT OLD BLACK MAGIC

    mix into DEVIL'S GUN ?

    and:

    NIGHT AND DAY

    wow.
are those begging for the Steve Thompson, John Luongo retreatments !!!

    Gorgeously arranged songs by
Gene Page (Barry White's arranger) --- totally ignored.

Can't we please go back somehow and fix some of these disco injustices

.... and dance a little while we're at it

Gorgeous renditions...specially "Night and Day"! I love those sweeping strings at the three minute mark and that fade out with Johnny's long last note would have made for some creative mixes.

Unfortunately, being that they're both from 1979, neither song would have fit on trendier dancefloors back then....still, I like to think that there would have been a few adventurous DJs that bucked trends and were determined to add some beauty and sparkle to the darker and edgier music that continually pushed its way into the pounding nights. The music at the Trocadero Transfer seemed to be able to maintain that mixture of light and dark. Did these get played there?

Anyone knows the story behind "Ready or not"? Which version was released first, Johnny Mathis' or Deborah Washington's?

CBS could have released a disco album with those songs:

Begin the beguine 8:29 [12" Steve Thompson remix; from the lp "The best years of my life", 1979]
Night and day 5:00 [from the lp "Mathis magic", 1979]
I will survive 3:59 [from the lp "Different kinda different", 1980]

That old black magic 5:28 [from the lp "Mathis magic", 1979]
My body keeps changing my mind 3:30 [from the lp "Mathis magic", 1979] (covered by Karen Carpenter in 1980)
Gone gone gone 6:33 [12" John Luongo remix; from the lp "The best years of my life", 1979]
Ready or not 2:54 [from the lp "That's What Friends Are For", 1978] -with Deniece Williams-

I have to admit to preferring Julio Iglesias' version of 'Begin The Beguine'. It's even got a syndrum ping or 2!

    ...ya gotta beat the street......

I wrote that on July 16, 2003--YIKES!!! Can we believe that it was all so simple then...?

This song has one of those gorgeous extended Thom Bell intros--
Johnny doesn't sing until 2:57 --released in 1973/charted in 1974--way before Teddy P. sang it....
not traditional "disco" --- but I think it could work in a "morning music" set

Some of the songs Johnny did with the guys from Chic for the disco album he did that was never released have now been released on the Chic Box Set Volume 1. These are:

    Something To Sing About
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7PO2xatKx4I

    It's Alright To Love Me
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HcywFJY-J4k

I Want To Fall In Love
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nUtKK8biQb8

I love all of these and its a shame the album was never released.

Not on the box set but Johnny also did for the album:

    I Love My Lady
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T1t5Kn5qZXw

    Take Me
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=utEXofodsVM

    Stay With Me
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BK8rn76tJTo

    Love & Be Loved
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IHcgG91B9Kw

    Judy
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=htW4OPrqSQ4

The full name of the boxset is "Nile Rodgers presents The Chic Organization Box Set Volume 1" which presumably means there will be an additional volume.
