Talking Disco Lives On In Italy

I've just been on a week's holiday by the shores of Lake Garda. Sitting in the cafes and browsing in the bookstores I quickly discovered that seventies disco is still in vogue. For the first time in what must be 30 years I heard Ritchie Family's "American Generation." Ditto Narada Michael Walden's "Tonight I'm Alright." Not to mention "I Feel Love", "Supernature" and "Come To Me". True, there was your usual Lady Gagas and stuff, too, but the point I'm trying to make is that these were heard at random, on different days at different times in different places. Here in the UK, I would have to search really hard to here this stuff.
Well done Italy. You made a great hol even better! Disco lives on!

Nice to hear you had a good holiday! It doesn't surprise me about the music you heard as the Italians have always loved disco & dance music generally. As a race they tend to have brilliant taste in everything - food, clothes, cars, music at al.... it's a generalisation but I find it's true.

I've been on my way through the Northern Italy few years ago (some Saturday) and on the car radio was written Italian radio station named "Ottanta Radio" and from loudspeakers was playing early 80's Italo Disco/Boogie with Italian flavour; 3-4 minutes live mixing/playing tracks ("cut") with DJ's speak (Italian, of course); something similar what Riccardo Cioni did during His shows! I'm still having "goosebumps" while I'm recalling these moments... On my vacations in Istra (Croatia) I'm always trying to reach those Italian radio stations accross the sea with the BEST old music because there is a less number of FM radio shows with similar music these days! Greets!

Dj Italocarlito will be spinning a 6 hour marathon set of the most in demand 70's underground space disco/beach sounds in existence in Firenze TONIGHT, the 27th of July. Google it and find your way there. I so wish I was in Italy right now. I've seen the record collection of this guy. Absolutely jawdropping. The gig will be massive.
