Lime were a Canadian husband/wife team: Dennis & Denyse (no kidding!!!) LePage, who were HI-NRG darlings in the 1980's disco club scene.

Their productions were full of hooks and catchy choruses: "Your Love" ("your love, your love is never changing" ( followed by a screechy "your love is never-changing")) & "Babe, We're Gonna Love Tonight" were the two biggest songs.

The problem was the vocals. He sang badly and SHE was unbearable; a woman who sang in a Tiny Tim falsetto (is that possible???) I've said it before and I'll say it again: she sounds like a yippy chihuaha doggie with a lit firecracker up her ass.

There were rumors that it was actually Dennis singing BOTH parts--but I guess it was just an Urban Disco Legend. I saw photos of the pair--I remember she was a skinny blonde in the Dale Bozzio (Missing Persons) tradition and he was a Cerrone-ish Eurotrash disco lizard type. Hey that's the way I remember it!!!! :P

Now after I typed this, I went to allmusic .com to see if there was a photo. There was...BUT there was also this strange and unusual info:

"Lime was a Canadian disco/new wave combo that consisted of lead singers Chris Marsh and Joy Dorris, and production/songwriting team Denis and Denyse LePage."

    WHAT???!!!!!!!

Ya mean, those weren't the vocals of Dennis/Denyse????!!!!

    HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Marky,

This is interesting so I spun your topic off on its own so it wouldn't be missed.

I've never heard of those vocalists, but I guess anything is possible. On the other hand AllMusic calling them New Wave is a stretch so perhaps there might have been another Lime and hence the confusion? Anyone???

Joy Dorris sang live with Lime, but I don't think she ever recorded anything in the studio with them. She went on to become Joy Winter who recorded on Epic. She's married to John Luongo.

Now that does sound more reasonable and accounts for AllMusic's posting. Here's a photo that I have from a 12" single...

OK, so it really WAS Denis (sorry for adding that exta "n") and Denyse who were RESPONSIBLE fopr those vocals???

Speaking of John Luongo (one of my fave remixers)--what's he up to these days???? (I hate to admit it, but I sorta thought/hoped he was gay...don't ask me why...just his musical sensibility that made my feet wanna dance).

Come on, who in their right mind would want to claim those voices as their own? ("Love me baaaby, SCREEEEECH!") Then again, one of Paula Abdul's backing singers sued, claiming that it was her voice used on Paula's records, so I suppose anything is possible.

However, I would not be surprised if the couple in the picture were models and not Denis/Denyse. They look too young and perfect, given that I have seen Québécois pop singles from the early 70s with Denis' name on the credits (usually as arranger)... and who knows how old he was then. In a genre as image-oriented as this, there's got to be a good reason for them not to have their faces plastered on every album cover.

Those look like MODELS in that photo to me. NOT the way I remember the duo: a Cerronish dude and a skinny, blonde Dale Bozzio skank type. I saw their photos in Billboard and at Aloha Records.

When I bought that record back in the 1980s I also thought that the two on the cover must have been models. I'd be curious to see who they really are.

    I like Luongo too Marky.
So are you saying John has a gay rhythm?
Any as Bernie said, some of straights know good music when we hear it. Having said that though, you may not feel that way about my taste since I liked "Your Love" and you just trashed Lime's vocal abilities :)

:o OK, I'm very confused. I remember "Lime" appearing on an early 80's telethon (not sure if it was the Labor Day Telethon). The female singer looked like the woman on Bernie's album cover. Her voice had a bit of that "Cry Of The Banshee" quality, but it wasn't as bad as the "singer" on the recordings: no dogs started barking and howling in other states at the sound of her voice.

Here's the rub: the guy doing the male vocals (who sounded a lot like Denis)looled like a cross between Paul Schaefer and a Muppet. I always assumed that this was the real LePage. They couldn't have hired him for his raw sex appeal.

Here's another site which poses the same question.

I'll bet the couple on the album cover on the left is the real Lime. They don't look like models.

Here's the key to the mystery:

Sometime around 1982 or 1983 Lime had become so successful that demands for personal appearances was enormous. Denis and Denyse chose not to tour for several reasons. Their age was one factor, neither cared to schlep around the globe doing one-night stands. Another was that though both are attractive for their age group their looks weren't exactly in-sync with their audiences. After lengthy auditions two attractive blondes with similar vocal ranges were recruited to tour as Lime. Joy Dorris and Chris Marsh fit the bill and although I had the pleasure of meeting and working with them in 1984 I can offer no formal information on the two,

By 1989's release "Brand New Day" the husband and wife team had created an empire that had a life of it's own. Denis and Denyse did contribute to the album but had already distanced themselves from the whole scene and turned the production over to Richard Buck. Vocals were also split with Joy and Chris for the actual recordings. This was about to be the end of the road for Joy and Chris as well as Lime as hitmakers. Two 12" singles "Please Say You Will" backed with "Brand New Day" and "Sentimentally Yours" were released on Karisma Records and would both chart high on club playlists. The album did not enjoy the same attention and was not picked up for American release. Perhaps it was the lack of total commitment from LePage or the uneveness of the material and singers but in any event it slid into the cut-out bins quickly. During this period Jeff Streger and several rotating females toured as Lime. The first female Kim Cermank is now married to Art Garfunkel. With the lack of any solid hits, touring for the faux pas Lime quickly dried up and they were soon off the circuit.
Denis and Denyse returned wholeheartedly in 1991 to write. perform and produce the groups nineth album "Caroline." This would be their last hit of any note. The oddley sounding "Caroline" was done in the current New-Jack sound and despite several versions it failed to capture the glory of their heyday. The album had other strong material as well. Tasty selections like "Never Say Never" and "Web Of Desire" fortified the albums sales. But tastes and styles had changed and Lime was no longer the group de jour.
As of 2002 they have released a new album "Love Fury." I have not had a chance to review it personally but with titles like "Dance, Dance, Dance," "No Other Love (I Need It Bad)" and "Takin' The Night" it sounds promising. Fortunately Unidisc, the parent company of Matra, has re-released their entire catalogue on compact disc. These treasures contain the complete original albums plus each release has the remixed 12" single versions of the albums hits. Though a bit pricey at around $18.00 a disc it's a solid investment for any high energy disco fan. Perhaps with their new release we'll see more Lime in the future. Denis still continues to arrange and work with other artists most notably Los Del Mar and Ouba.

EDITOR'S NOTE: I'm always amazed at the viewers of my website......it's so cool! JOY.... what a classy lady!

    Message From Joy Dorris/Lime

I just came across your web site and thought I would email you myself and say hello. My years spent touring as Lime were some of the funniest, totally craziest years of my life. I am curious as to who you are and where we met.
Regardless, we had the pleasure of working with some great dj's in some terrific clubs. I'm glad you were there for the ride.
    Best wishes,
    Joy Dorris

No, I just cut & pasted from the second link nrgbeat typed. I don't know who the writer actually is either.

Bottomline though...the real LIME stopped touring and the LIME imposters were hired around 82-83.

Inane trivial correction: the site reads "The album was their first to be completely recorded with Roland, Juno and Jupiter synthesizers"...

That should read "Roland Juno and Jupiter". Roland is the synth company, the Juno 60 and Jupiter 8 (or 6) were the synths.

Can you imagine the auditions to replace LIME????

Wanted: One hot blonde chick who sings in a high-pitched nasally screech and one Euro-trash dude who sings like he learned English phonetically in a raspy, grating growl.

"Sorry, you're just NOT AWFUL ENUF to replace the real Lime!!!"

    "NEXT!!!!!"

John's well and living in a small upstate NY town. I'm going over to interview him (and a few other guys) in a few weeks.

Found very interesting info on the site suggested above about Denise LePage

here's an eMail from her and recent picture de Denise
she explains why we wouldn't see their pics associated with Matra records.
