I am devastated that the Maestro has passed. I have been a hardcore fan of his for 30 years.
And so has my youth passed. How many times did I spend "quality time" with a sweetheart who had liquified
with a Barry White LP playing in the background!!!!!!

    No they "liquified" :D :D
Barry White was an auditory aphrodisiac for a lot of women
during the '70's and that IS the truth!!!!!!
I couldn't tell you how many times my pals and myself got it on with some sweet young honey with the Maestro singing one of his ballads in the background! At her request!!!!!

I never considered Barry to be Disco. His sound and style were unique and that's why his fans love him. Barry White is THE definition of "COOL"!

I have not posted in this forum for awhile, but with the passing of one of my all-time favorites, I felt compelled to do so now. On Saturday the 5th while I cooked on the grill in my backyard and as I kicked back a few cold ones on a hot day I paid homage to the Maestro by playing my entire Barry White three CD box-set all afternoon and early evening. My hope is that before you passed on, you truly understood how much people really loved your music. An icon before and a legend now, we will now just 'Let the music play'.

    Easy,

    Sam "ALL JAM" :(

(4), and arguably also "It's Ecstasy When You Lay Down Next to Me" (3Q) (though the tempo is a little slower there), as well as the incredible opening to "Your Sweetness is My Weakness" (5), plus some songs for Love Unlimited and the Love Unlimited Orchestra like "High Steppin', Hip Dressin' Fella" (6) and "I'm So Glad That I'm a Woman" (7), and maybe "Don't You Know How Much I Love You" (4Q) despite its unique rhythm. A few others are borderline disco and could be interpreted in different ways. So that's 7 for sure, and 4 more (marked Q) which I think also qualify. "Power of Love" by the orchestra is borderline disco but there's an extra beat in there in a way I haven't heard in other songs.
I had to smile when I read this. "It's Ecstasy..." was considered one of the hottest records in New York clubs, no argument about it. Tempo was fierce for early, late and those everything in-between sessions. I remember a lot of dj's commenting, me included, on the fact that Barry had finally added a little bottom to his music. This is still my favorite dance piece by him, much more than "...First, Last, Everything".

    He was the man

Barry White is the man that put me on to disco and dance. "Walking in the rain with the one I love" and "Love's theme" were my first encounters. But I had no idea it was Barry White who was behind these great tracks. I was just entering puberty... so what did I know in general!

But I was a radio nut and two or three years later I found this FM radio pirate station that basically played whole Barry White albums and I finally put it together that this great music came from the same guy as those two earlier discoveries. Now I own virtually all of his albums/CD's which still get a lot of "airplay" in our household.

Barry... the music will go on and on and on...

Like only yesterday i remember playing for the first time "Let the music play" , a track that was
then one of many that proved Barry to be the real "King of soul".
His music was not really disco but soul, polished to give it an extra shine that many tried to copy but only few came close.
It's a true shame that he wasn't given more time on this earth, seems like always the good ones go first.

    Barry White

My memories of Barry White takes me back to 1974 at the Circle Star Theatre in San Carlos, California (next to San Jose) on a Saturday night. The Dells opened the show, then the Love Unlimited Orchestra (Love's Theme and Satin Soul, Spanish Lei), then Love Unlimited (who went through their selections from Under the Influence & In Heat) and closed with Walking in the Rain With The One I Love. At the end of the song where "I think I'll call him right now," Barry appeared walking down the isle to the stage with a standing ovation. And of course the Maestro brought the house down with all of his tunes. What a great show. Wish I had it on video. Barry, thanks for all the great music. May you rest in peace.....

I have two concerts of the maestro on video. Both are mono  as I taped them long ago from TV. Quality is OK, but the music and show shine through like you can not believe it. One is a concert in the UK, the other in Belgium. Both are with full orchestra and "greatest hits". I still play them about once a year, with headset on through the hifi system so I can tweak the OK sound quality... :)

Barry White - A Sentimental Journey

Barry White holds a special place in my heart. Being born and raised in Northern California and having access to many different radio formats, I was fortunate to first hear him on the airwaves (KDIA, Oakland) in the mid-70s. Problem was, not many kids in my neighborhood listened to soul, so my new found musical world felt like a lonely island....except one day in summer music class when my teacher wanted everyone to listen to the ("simple and straightforward") percussion of this one tune - "Can't Get Enough of Your Love." Like many of his tunes, it was infectious, fresh, and funky AND (much to my joy and amazement) everyone got into it!

So many years later, I still remember that day and the impact Barry made on a bunch of white pre-teens.

    God bless the Maestro.

I was only 5, and my sister had the 45 to "It's Ecstasy..".. Something about that record, that blue-violet and magenta art work, those strings and tempo made me fall in love. Years later, At age 17, my aunt left behind a 45 to "Im gonna love you just a little more, baby" and I curiously played that record on my stereo.. and I fell in love again.. and again.. and again to this moment!

Barry White you're loved by all! Thank you for you're great music and all the great memories you're music accounted for.

Just when you thought it was all over - no, no, no

A giant of the 70's dance era.I remember well tripping on down to Buffalo on my bi monthly jaunts to pick up soul and r&b hits at Aubrey and Dells for the club I was playing in.The selection and availabilty of that genre was rather limited in Canada at that time.At Aubrey and Dells they would play 45's and LP's for you to listen to and purchase what you like.I remember well the clerk saying listen to this cut it will knock you out.As he lowered the needle into the track the string crescendo of Love's Theme began and floored me.I instantly recognized it as a soon to be monster hit. This was my introduction to the Maestro who went on to produce numerous hit tunes and became such an integral part of the disco era.His passing has saddened me deeply as it has most people who equate their youth and the times with his sound.Greatly missed and deeply appreciated.
