A lot of talk here about Disco here but not much on RETRO. I also liked 80's music.

Men at Work captures for me the essence of what the 80's were. But the B52s were my favorite group with their hit Private Idaho.

I also liked Tuff Enuff by the Fabulous Thundibirds.

Hello Fantomas, Yes 'Men At Work' hallmarked the '80's. The 80's brought back dance music (yes disco came back but a 'High-nrg', 'Top 40 Dance' along with two new kids on the block, 'Wave' and unfourtanly 'Break-Dance'). I remembered the chain of Disco's I worked here in Florida (ABC Liquor Lounges)didn't know what to do with the new sounds. Some of thier clubs remained 'Disco' while other went 'New Wave'. I miss alot of the 80's music as much as I miss 'Classic Disco' (vs. the DJ's record pool frisbee's that alot of them played and wasted many a dance floor). I almost have as much 80's vinyl as I do of the 70's. I see from your details on your name you are (or used to live) in Elizabeth, N.J.. Used to live there til 72' (route 22, Broad Street/Downtown district and the old 'Two Guys' on Morris Ave and also on 22 in Plainfield). Hope the clubs are as great up there as they are here in Clearwater, Fl.. All the best, DJ Phil

When you say retro 80's, are you talking pop, house or rap?

I didn´t know, that the 80ies are called

    retro...here in Europe (especially Germany)

Electro is again massive. I will try to

DJ on a DarkWave-Elektro-Clubbing in the

MONASTERY called "MEA CULPA". Charts will

be soon available. Here are typical trends

    from the 80ies:

    -NEW WAVE

    -NEW ROMANTICS

    -HI-NRG

    -RAP/BREAKDANCE/ELEKTRO

    -GARAGE-DISCO

    -GOTHIC

    -NEUE DEUTSCHE WELLE

    -ITALO DISCO

    and so many more...

    Phil:

I left Elizabeth in 1994 to come to Miami, and yes, the clubs up North were always great.

    SIRIUS,
Quick question... are you referring to the THE MONASTERY, in Seattle Wa? Or maybe you DJ in a new club called the Monastery. ???

I am confused... I know 'MEA CULPA" is a term for "my fault", or slang "me bad" But what a cool name for band, label, or song.

I apologize in advance for being lost in space. Just reaching out... But I agree with you there were many sounds being cultivated in the early 80's. Calling everything Retro seems a little vague.
    xoxo

    Thanks!
