Thanks for the "poetry".
A truly special artist has left us. I suspect many never heard one of her best recorded performances, a silky performance of a Luther Vandross ballad called "Whether Or Not The World Gets Better" which she recorded as a duet with young singer Jimmy Salvemini on his album "Roll It" (good luck finding it). I also thought Phoebe Snow sounded a lot like Alicia Bridges. 4/26/2011

I loved Phoebe Snow...such a talented artist..R.I.P.
Phoebe actually had one Disco chart mention from Chicago for her cover of The Temptations' "Shakey Ground"

Why can't I get the video to actually post here anymore? Every time I try I only get the link to You Tube. I used to know how to get the vid to play here. Oy!

"Lost inside adorable illusion...."
I'm sure going to miss her. She was a pure combination of Jazz, Soul, Blues, and Contemporary. She always reminded me of Angela Bofil with her style of singing. "Up to the Moon, and Over the Stars" was always one my favorites. RIP Phoebe.

"Second Childhood" was the soundtrack for my Jr. High/High School years. Some nights, I'd listen to that album over and over and over, again. Completely immersed in every word, every subtle piece of arrangement. Like a distant, downward run of the strings, that would quietly appear, just once. Never to be repeated. Yet, accenting a line of lyric so profoundly, to complete a thought... an emotion... in a way that a thousand words could never do.
Phoebe put my fears, my loves, my happiness and my emotional turmoil, to music. Especially, my first, great love.
you're like my second childhood
complete, with all the mistakes I've made
the party's overstayed
but that's our charade
I feel pretty stubborn today
I shrug my shoulders and I stay...I stay
logic doesn't work
neither would a magic wand
if I turned and walked, right now
would you notice I had gone?
but if you are free
come and visit me
come visit me
inspired insanity
A true Poet... Phoebe gave a voice to my deepest emotions. And helped me get through the toughest period of my youth. I only wish she could've known how much her music lessened my pain.

"MUSIC IS AN EMOTION, SEARCHING FOR IT'S VOICE"
...come with me, "BACK TO MUSIC", on DISCOTERIA
http://www.live365.com/stations/cdnbob2
Cover of Paul McCartney's "Every Night"--I wonder if this could work as a "morning music" track?... only for a crowd with advanced musical taste, of course. [winky wink]
"Lost inside adorable illusion...."
This is one of my fave Phoebe Snow tracks...cover of the standard "Teach Me Tonight"---this is how to sing a song, American Idol wannabes.....
how to simmer it and slowly build it to an explosive intensity.
"Lost inside adorable illusion...."
I can't stop. This is a fun set of duets with Linda Ronstadt from SNL in 1979.
The first is "It's In His Kiss [The Shoop Shoop Song]"
Note Patti Austin in the middle of the back-up singers...any idea who the other 2 are?
This is the other duet they did "The Married Men" by The Roches
"Lost inside adorable illusion...."
by the way, with all that I've been reading about Phoebe Snow, it reminds me of something Bonnie Raitt said in an interview long ago...that major insurance companies would not insure musicians because at the time they were considered "too high a risk". Does anyone on here work for a major insurance company and know if that's true or not? Raitt also said some musicians had begun to list their employment as something other than musicians to try to escape the bias against them. I know for a fact that, since the recession, insurance companies are VERY willing to insure motorcyclists like myself and to say we'd been considered "high risk" long ago would be an understatement. 4/28/2011
