Questions about Taana Gardner 1979 album

I don't have the original lp "Taana Gardner", that's why I'm asking those questions:

1- The lp was only released in a 2 x 12" form? If it's the case what was the reason?
2- Is it a gatefold cover?
3- Is the lp version of "Work that body" different from the 12" single? It's sometimes dubbed as "special new mix".
4- What is the timing of the song "We Got To Work It Out"? Is it the official 9 minutes or actually 5:45 (iTunes)?
5- There is a reason why it's apparently hard to find?
    6- Is a re-issue or a cd release available?

Thanks in advance for any answer.

Pierre, the copy I have is a promo 2X12, so not sure if there was a single Lp version of it[/I]...Westend was strictly a disco label so, they indeed might have released all copies as 2X12 LP's.

I just don't think they pressed that many of them in the first place[/I]

I don't think that the entire LP was ever pressed as a CD, you can find some of the cuts on CD's like West End Story[/I]

Thanks in advance for any answer.

Hope this helps you out a bit!

Re: Questions about Taana Gardner 1979 album

    Hello,

After watching Taana Gardner performing "Work that Body" on youtube (great video) I got interested and found her self-titled album on itunes, but I also checked my CD collection and Larry Levan's Paradise Garage CD (classic West End Records remixes) contains the best Taana Gardner works and they're remastered:

    Heartbeat 9:56 98 BMP
    No Frills 6:28 110 BPM
Work That Body 7:47 128 BPM
When you Touch Me 10:39 132 BPM

    Hope this helps

I got a young "recruit" who has a whole collection of West End and he didn`t realize what he had. I got into a discussion with him on Levan and Tee Scott. He didn`t realize who they were. The next day he came back and said to me "How come you didn`t tell that Larry Levan was responsible for 'Heartbeat" selling four million copies". LOL.

Re: Questions about Taana Gardner 1979 album

Thanks guys for the answers, especially Disco Kid for the details.

But, where iTunes (and Waxpoetics) found the 5:45 mix of "We got to work it out"? Is the song really 9 minute long on the lp? It couldn't be a misprint?

I have the Larry Levan cd but I wonder also where they found some mixes: "Work that body" is 7:47 and not 7:19 (original lp and 12") and NYC Peech Boys' "Don't make me wait" is 8:21 (7:14 on the original 12" single and 6:30 on my copy of the vinyl lp).

Bernie thanks for correcting the quotes on my post!

Pierre, it seems the timings on "WE GOT TO WORK IT OUT" and "JUST BE A FRIEND" are reversed on the 12"

"WE GOT TO WORK IT OUT" should be 5:50 and "JUST BE A FRIEND" should be 9:01, they are listed incorrectly on the label.

You would be surprised by the goodies at "Waxpoetics". I really like this magazine because they get into what was going on behind the record......like who Wah-Wah Watson is or in the latest edition, a good detail article about Ron Hardy. I knew people who knew Ron personally and some of those people were interviewed for the article.
