    Prelude faves

I've been giving this a bit of thought as Prelude is probably my fave record label ever (from the early orchestrated proto hi-nrg to the funkier more electronic 80s stuff)- so many tracks I love & it's hard trying to put them into order of preference but here goes (& i've had to go to 30 as I couldn't narrow it down to 10 or 20):

    1. Keep On Jumpin' - Musique
    2. In The Name Of Love - Sharon Redd
    3. I'm a Man - Macho
    4. Beat The Street - Sharon Redd
    5. Come On Dance, Dance - Saturday Night band
    6. Wastin' My Love - Sticky Fingers
    7. I Want To Give You Me - Inner Life
    8. Just Let Me Do My Thing - Sine

    Re: Prelude faves

Prelude would be my top label as well mate. I wouldn't argue with any of your picks and similarly would never be able to narrow it down to ten. I'll throw in ten that are not in your thirty for consideration, no particular order.

Come to me - France Joli
You got my love - Sharon Redd
You're the one for me (instrumental) - D Train
Hot summer night - Vicki Sue Robinson
    Double journey - Powerline
The more I get - Lorraine Johnson
    It's a lie - Sharon Redd
    Love fever - Gayle Adams
Must be the music - Secret Weapon
Happy is the only way - Sine

I'd be made up if someone like ACE records released all the 12" A/B sides in chronological order. It's not happening though.

    Good call SandraDee

    17) DO IT TO THE MUSIC - Raw Silk

    30) AIN'T NO MOUNTAIN HIGH ENOUGH - Inner Life
You know I'm a temptress Blanche! You also know I hate to be pedantic but Raw Silk was on West End & Inner Life moved to Salsoul after the 1st LP so you're allowed another 2 Prelude tracks! I'm so good to you sis! It just shows how good Prelude was when I have to leave off such greats as Theo Vaness & Kumano from my top 30; on any other label they'd be in my top 10!

Oh DannyBoy, that would be a dream come true! You're spot on about 'Youre The One For Me' instrumental too - I meant to put that I prefer that version too!

Ooh my bad. I'm supposed to be working! and I'm trawling Discogs for titles! I's weird because I edited out 2 of my original choices and added non-Prelude titles! It starts to blur after awhile. So I've updated. Thanks for the warning of non-Prelude product in my list!

No problem sis! Nice to see you included that Linda Taylor track - along with Nick Straker, it's one of the few UK tracks to get a Prelude release.

I reckon "She's so divine" was on Arista in the US? It does appear as a remix on Prelude on the "Kiss FM Mastermixes Volume II". I thought they ruined a classic to be honest. Do we allow it?

I edited it...yeah it was on Arista--I was confused by its mention on Discogs. I took care of it.

    Re: Prelude faves

I'll agree Sandy, Prelude probably has the most songs I like of any label.
You guys already named a lot of the songs I like. I'll have to go home and look at anything else I like you guys missed.

    Re: Prelude faves

I liked Prelude's hardcore disco, but also how they transitioned to R&B influenced dance music, especially Hi Gloss and Unlimited Touch. And the Prelude Mastermixes are still favorites. And even though I love her first two albums, I think the funkier NOW! is France Joli's best work on Prelude (although I hate the tacky pink tilted titling on the cover.)

    Top Ten Prelude faves:

FRANCE JOLI - I Need Someone
    FRANCE JOLI - Playboy
FRANCE JOLI - I Wanna Take A Chance On Love
FRANCE JOLI - Heart To Break The Heart
    MUSIQUE - Glide
THEO VANESS - Bad Bad Boy
SLIMLINE - If You Can Dance You Can Do It
MACHO - Because There's Music In The Air
UNLIMITED TOUCH - Searching To Find The One
    PETER JACQUES - Devil's Run
"Because there's music in the air."

    Re: Prelude faves

I find these 'faves' threads interesting 'cos most people seem to have totally different faves to each other - just shows, we may all have similar musical tastes but we all differ in slight ways.

I love 'A-Freak-A' but I always find 'Freak On' a really uplifting fun track - it's the piano that's so special I think.

Interesting that you picked a track from Musique's 2nd LP - 'Glide' is really good but I personally don't think it has the magic of the 1st LP. Just call me predictable!

    SandraDee: You are predictable.

    : )

I like the first Musique album (although I never warmed up to Summer Love.)

What I especially like about Glide (or should we say Keep On Jumpin' pt.2?) is when they let loose around 5:15, and then when they sing "Fly away" at 5:45...

and now that I'm looking at YouTube, I realize I have to include this Prelude gem:

"Because there's music in the air."

A Love Massage in hand is worth two In The Bush.

I've known about this record, but never actually heard it. So I found it on YouTube and gave it a listen. A very pleasant surprise. Has that classic disco girl group sound. Reminds me a bit of Harlow or Fever or Baby 'O even. Will give it many more listens this weekend.

    Re: Prelude faves

    *****

a much different list than even five years ago would have produced :

    TOP TEN PRELUDE
    - in order:

    1) --- I'll CRY FOR YOU - Kumano --- disco w/ the ultimate emotion - a guy singing about how he'll cry for you .
    2)
--- DARLING COME BACK HOME - Barbara Mason --- the perfect song that reflected a then current personal situation (speaking of a guy crying for you)
    3) --- ALL MY LOVE - L.A.X. ... at the risk of being a male chauvinist ... only song ever to get away with such a reference ....
    4)
--- IN THE NAME OF LOVE -Sharon Redd -- piano banger : tension, anticipation, drama , heartbreak
    5) --- BABY COME ON - Sex O'Clock USA --- give it to your loving daddy

    6) --- KEEP ON JUMPIN'
    - Musique --- A Prelude Top 10 without this ????? [wide eyed]
    7) --- COME TO ME - France Joli --- unfortunately, overplayed in my mind at this point, but the last great "xylophone disco" song ....
    8) --- SENTIMENTALLY IT'S YOU -Theo Vaness .... laaa , la la la la la la ... - for that part alone
    9) --- YOUR LOVE IS A LIFESAVER - Gayle Adams ---- right blend of sass and class
    9) --- KEEP ON - D Train --- has now lost some of its luster , but lured me onto the dance floor for weeks BITD
"The sky is the limit and you know that you keep on, just keep on pressin' on; the sky is the limit and you know that you can have what you want, be who you want."
    10) -- I'M CAUGHT UP ( In A One Night Love Affair) - Inner Life - everyone related to that story line
    10) -- COME ON DANCE DANCE - Saturday Night Band --- mixed so well with the new sound of newcomers Chic

I've always loved this album. I'm a huge fan of producers Willi Morrison and Ian Guenther plus it features great vocals by Helen & Phyllis Duncan (Duncan Sisters).
