Yesterday, I bought the "Give Your Body Up" cd and I'm enjoying it very much, especially since I've only paid $9.99 for it. Out of the ten songs on this cd, there are two that is okay and they are:

    #3) Somebody Else's Guy - Jocelyn Brown

For some reason I never liked this song.

    #10)Over & Over - Sylvester

Its okay I can do without it.

But all of the other songs are great such as:

#1) Just Us - Two Tons of Fun

#2) Baby I'm Scared of You - Bobby Womack

#4) Touch And Go - Ecstacy, Passion & Pain *

    #5) Love Is The Message - MFSB*(11:27)

#6) Running Away - Roy Ayers*

#7) Now That We Found Love - Third World*

    #8) Bra - Cymande*

#9) Down To Love Town - The Originals*

I forgot to mention that every last song on this compilation is the original with extended mixes.

    Hi HustleBaby,

You are absolutely correct. This is a great CD. Better yet, it's a 3-volume set so you should look for the other two. They are just as good.

One note - The version of "Somebody Else's Guy" on the CD is the short (7") version. The 12" runs about 6 and-a-half minutes.

Interesting choices indeed! Let's start backwards with this selection, shall we?

Over and Over - Sylvester (Leave it behind)

Down to Love Town - The Originals (Classic)

There are a few versions of this song available, through bootleg, compilation, double-sided 12" on Motown b/w Thelma Houston - Don't Leave Me This Way and limited edition version.

    Bra - Cymande (Classic)

Available in its original form on the self-titled Cymande album, or through the Paul Winley label.

Now That We Found Love - Third World (Hot)

The version that's hard to find is the original import 12" Made in Jamaica.

DISD 8662 Third World Now That We Found Love

    (1978)

A1. Now That We Found Love (7:37)

    B1. One Cold Vibe (4:55)

Running Away - Roy Ayers Ubiquity (Classic)

PRO 023 Roy Ayers Running Away (6:57)/Short Version 3:12)

Love Is The Message - MFSB (Heavyweight Champ) There aren't enough words to describe for this, heavyweight champion of all classics. If you don't have the Philadelphia Classics Double LP, then you don't have the long version.

Touch and Go - Ecstacy, Passion and Pain SUN 33007 Ecstacy, Passion & Pain Touch And Go

    Featuring Barabara Roy (1986)

    New Mix (8:42)

Baby I'm Scared Of You - Womack and Womack

(Classic) The Long versions are available on their album and promo 12" version on Elektra.

Somebody Else's Guy - Jocelyn Brown (Classic)

It's a downbeat record that wasn't as upbeat as her Inner Life projects ; For example: Ain't no mountain high enough, I like it like that/or slow groove with a disco vibe such as Make it last forever and I'm caught up (In a one night love affair). Somebody Else's Guy is a classic and will always remain one.

    12BRW 5 Jocelyn Brown Somebody Else's Guy

    (1984)

Just Us - Two Tons of Fun (Classic)

In the mode of Somebody Else's Guy, but downbeat from their uptempo hit "I got the feeling". Nevertheless, a classic by all means.

Keep the faith and everything will come your way as time marches on!

    Hey NickNack

On friday, I was debating whether I should buy both "GYBU" Vol# 1 & 2 but stuck with Vol 2 because it had most of the songs that I've been seeking. The other reason why I chose not to buy Vo1 1 is because there are only four songs out of ten that I like. The lists includes:

    1.Funky Sensation - Gwen McCrae *

    2.Over Like A Fat Rat - Fonda Rae(Don't like)3.Can't Play Around - Lace(Never heard it)

4.What Can I Do For You - Labelle(Never heard it)

    5.Always There - Side Effect *

6.Why Leave Us Alone - Five Special(??????)

7.Is It All Over My Face - Loose Joints *

    8.Freeman - South Shore Commission *******

I might by this cd just for this song alone. This is the only cd that I've found that has "Freeman" with the original/long version.

9.Bad For Me - DeeDee Bridgewater(??????)

    10.I Love Music - O'Jays(I have it)

Volume 3 didn't have that many hits on there that I'm looking for but I'll check it out again. The only song that I can remember that I like on Vol 3 is "Girl You Need A Change Of Mind" - Eddie Kendricks.

    Hey Delight.

I'm in between you and Nicky on this one. Like you Vol 3 didn't thrill that much because I either had the songs already or I didn't care for the others. I also agree with you about Vol 2. I have Vol 1 and still recommend it to you. To me that Labelle song was their best. I do mean their best in every way including the arrangement for this awesome jam. I'm surprised you dont like Over Like A Fat Rat but hey, we all can't like the same songs. I'm not fond of Is It All Over My Face

I remember Why Leave Us Alone was a hot song in the clubs for several weeks and it's actually not bad. I guess what I'm saying is get the Vol 1 if you can.

    2.Over Like A Fat Rat - Fonda Rae(Don't like)

    IT'S OK

    3.Can't Play Around - Lace(Never heard it)

YOU CAN'T HELP BUT GET INTO THIS. GREAT VOCALS AS WELL AS MUSIC.

4.What Can I Do For You - Labelle(Never heard it)

AWESOME!! I BELIEVE LABELLE LOST MONEY ON THIS ONE BECAUSE IT WAS THE "B" SIDE TO "LADY MARMALADE".

    5.Always There - Side Effect *

    AGREE

6.Why Leave Us Alone - Five Special(??????)

ANOTHER EXCELLENT PIECE, ALTHOUGH THE ONE HERE IS THE 'SHORT' (5:54) 12" VERSION. THE FULL LENGTH IS 10:17. EITHER WAY, YOU GET SOME 'OLD SCHOOL' (A LA 'THE TEMPTATIONS') VOCALS WITH A NICE UPTEMPO FUNKY DANCE JAM.

7.Is It All Over My Face - Loose Joints *

    NOT FOR ME

    8.Freeman - South Shore Commission *******

I might by this cd just for this song alone. This is the only cd that I've found that has "Freeman" with the original/long version.

YOU ALREADY KNOW HOW SERIOUS THIS IS!

9.Bad For Me - DeeDee Bridgewater(??????)

POWERFUL VOCALS FROM A JAZZ ARTISTS IN CROSS-OVER MODE.

    10.I Love Music - O'Jays(I have it)

    I LOVE IT, TOO.

I LIKE THIS A LITTLE MORE THAN PAUL, I GUESS. THE FULL LENGTH "RUNAWAY LOVE". CHAKA, LENNY WILLIAMS, DAN HARTMAN AND PHREEK --- ALL BIG IN THE CLUBS. "I'LL DO ANYTHING FOR YOU" BY DENROY MORGAN WAS ALSO HUGE IN IT'S DAY.

Personally, I think you'd get into all the volumes once you had 'em in your hands.

    Paul & NickNack

I think I'll end up buying Vol.1 than Vol.3 because 3 is boring. I don't know who Lenny Williams is and I'm so SICK AND TIRED of Denroy Morgan's "I'll Do Anything For You"! I've heard it soooo many times that I can't stand it! I have Dan's "Vertigo/Relight My Fire" and I will like the full length of Linda's "Runaway Love". Phreek's "Weekend" was a big hit so I may settle for that one too.

Hey Nicky. I remember the first time I heard What Can I Do For You. It was at a block party and the thing was pumping. Hey, did you play it much back in the day?
