Easy Going: "Baby I Love You" US 12" on Prism.
My recent discovery is the Disco Version of You beat me to the punch by Retta Young which features an All Platinum instrumental break. How did that one pass me by ?
And the tune I remember dancing to when it was first released? Disco Connection by Isaac Hayes which I completely forgot about for over 30 years !!

This is for the recent discoveries category:
I first heard Hera Björk when she sang Je Ne Sais Quoi for Iceland at Eurovision last year. But just finally got around to listening to her full album. Filled with lots of original dance tracks, a remake of Knock On Wood, plus a few ballads thrown in for good measure. An authentic diva voice.

Can't get enough of this one:

Well in Germany in the late 70s and early 80s it wasn't that easy to find out about new releases in the disco-funk segment. You had to listen to Radio Luxemburg (Tony Prince, Rob Jones) or AFN (Don Tracy). So it happened that I missed that one by Ozone. I've never heard about that band before, I discovered it on You Tube, found out that Teena Marie produced the song and performed on it, and found out that Lady T died just a couple of days before my discovery of "Keep on dancing". RIP Teena
Listen to that great tune

The easy listening station that I have on in the background while I work occasionally plays some great forgotten light disco songs by Canadian artists (due to Canadian content rules). I finally found out the name and artist of this one tune in particular..."There'll Come A Time" by Basic Black and Pearl from 1975. What a gorgeous song! Apparently there's a 4:10 version of this which I will be searching for.

I reallly worked this song at The LAVA LAVA Club. It had that right amount of the "rock, freak" sound so popular then as well as having more traditional disco elements in parts especially toward the end (w/ real strings!!) .... good bridge song ....
had forgotten all about it ....
love the soothing "Claudja Barry" vocals paired with the shouting male chorus.
surprised it didn't do MUCH better on the charts ....

Baby, take me
high upon a hillside
high up where the stallion
meets the sun
Well, the percussion and the groove are good, the vocal perfomances not so convincing. This tune was written by the guys who penned the the great Smokey Robinson tune "Tell me tomorrow" and Robert Johns "Am I ever gonna get to hold you again", which wer far more catchy in my opinion. ;-)
Cool! I certainly had naive intentions in finding this rare little piece of vinyl and it's way over my budget. Is that extra minute and twenty seconds some additional instrumental music or is it a repeated verse and chorus? They apparently did release an album but I haven't found any info on it yet.

Gave a friend a good laugh the other day when we were watching Lawrence of Arabia (1962) on the big-screen locally. As it was my first time seeing the classic film, I found I liked the main title theme and whispered to my friend that it reminded me of a tune I already knew. He almost spit out his popcorn when I told him I HAD heard it before ....on my Ritchie Family disco LP (Arabian Nights). Who says disco isn't educational or cultural ??? LOL.

For boogienights:
Demis' disco stuff: 1. Midnight is the time i need you (1975) excellent with strings, has been re-edited A LOT, one of my faves. 2. Acton Lady (B-side to previous 7'') 3. Bahia Blue
(1976) (as it implies...) 4. I dig you (1977) not-so-disco but was dancified by todd terje in a brilliant edit 5. Let it happen (1977) funky-disco 6. I just live (1978) (B-side to L.O.V.E. single)
Hope this helped!
I discovered Petula Clark's "Downtown '77" (disco version) [am i camp???] which cheers me up a lot lately, and re-earthed D-R-U-M's "Lalabye" (the instrumental version) from my vaults to realize it always makes my "toosh" happy-to-shake-to-the-hustle...
Another one I DO spin a lot again lately is Diana Ross' "Once In The Morning". Wish this was released on 12'' disco mix back then...
drlove--- remember this from the 1976 cover list year-end roundup? [winky, winky]
9) ARABIAN NIGHTS MEDLEY - The Ritchie Family
***a) Istanbul, Not Constantinople
(Fifties novelty tune with lyrics by Neil Simon (!) about this Turkish city's name change; recorded by the Four Lads; Bette Midler did it briefly in her "Live At Last" concert as part of the Vicki Eydie "Around The World" tour medley. Goofy, off-the-wall alternative group, They Might Be Giants, also recorded it in the 1990.)
***b) Lawrence Of Arabia
(Maurice Jarre's Oscar winning theme from the 1962 film; (Jacques Morali added lyrics to the theme)
***c) In A Persian Marketplace
(AMG says it was a classical piece...I think, once again, Jacques Morali added the "Show Me How You Dance" part!!!)
"Lost inside adorable illusion...."
thanks, Marky ...I actually had forgotten that post. Great background on the other tunes, especially the "Istanbul Not Constantinople" from the '50s......as I was wondering where the title came from, since there's no reference to that title in Morali's fun lyrics.
