New Release from the Canadian "King/Queen of Pain":

Love Fury, Lime—After a 12-year hiatus, Lime is back with a ninth studio album. Known for a string of ’80s dance hits like “Babe We’re Gonna Love Tonight,” husband-and-wife team Denis and Denyse LePage have just released Love Fury and, harsh though it may sound, their 12 years off the scene wasn’t quite long enough. “Love Fury” is a moronic, simplistic, generic dance floor bust. The music is pure club cheese and the lyrics make Ace of Base sound as profound as Bob Dylan. Completely inane lyrics litter the album with lines like “Don’t take it bad if I leave you/it doesn’t mean I don’t love you” and “dance dance dance/move your body to the music/dance dance dance/groove your body to the music.” Only with the funk stomp “Francis and Francine” does the duo offer any subject matter approaching substance (it’s a sort-of story song about over-achievers), but even this one is lame beyond belief. Latin, house and synth flavors occasionally change the pace, but the corny raps, whistles and drum machines make this whole train wreck come off like a bad neo-disco disaster. *

Not that I'm a fan of Lime, but I think it's absurd to criticize any dance music for having silly/fluffy/moronic lyrics. Dance music is pure escapism and fun, not something to sit down and get all philosophical over. How many dance songs -- even ones that you love -- can you name with deep, meaningful lyrics?*

I always think that Cerrone's 'Supernature' & Machine's 'There But for The Grace Of God' have quite meaningful lyrics. That's only 2 though out of about 2 zillion isnt it? :roll: Point taken Graham! :-?

The lyrics to Double Exposure's "Ten Percent" have a lot of meaning - and it is arguably the first commercially available 12" single. "Ten percent is something/ It beats one hundred percent of nothing at all." Lots of meaning to minorities of all stripes.

And, in the vein of Cerrone's "Supernature"....the Pluton & The Humanoids song "World Invaders" has some deep lyrics like "will the will to survive overcome?"...and The Immortals' (only?) song "Ultimate Warlord" has the lyrics: "People down on Earth, don't you realize, what your life is worth?" These songs always make me think...but yeah, I don't get too misty-eyed over most dance music.
