Hmmm...a google search leads me to believe that it is, of all artists, Simply Red (!!!!) and the song is "Sunrise".
Well, I did sorta like the vocal.
I was listening to the radio the other day...a real rarity!!! these days. Anyhoo, it was on K-BIG (cause I musta been listening to their Disco Saturday Nights previously).
When I started the car, Cher was vocoding "Believe" and I never turn that song off. NO MATTER WHAT ROBERT HILBURN SAYS!!!!! Then, Madonna's tasteful "Frozen" came on...and I continued to listen.
Then...I heard the opening of Hall & Oates classic "I Can't Go For That (No Can Do)"...and I was starting to get a little hard...just a little, mind you, I'm OLD. :P
But, quelle surprise, the vocal was different!!! Someone had just "SAMPLED" the ENTIRE instrumental track and written new words...
Anyone know what this little bastardization is titled? And the name of the bastard artist????
(I'm NOT saying it was awful...just another sad example of theft replacing creative musical imagaination. Why create a new hook when you can "lift" one from one of your old records? Eh????)

"Lost inside adorable illusion...."

maybe I'm wrong but I think DJ Eric sampled Hall and Oates "I I can't go for that" in "We are love".

Marky,
I finally heard the song on a smooth jazz radio station at work... They did a really good job on the song and I can't wait to get the CD. I'm not necessarily picking on you, but it seems like you are embarrased to like a song that is sampled? why? if it sounds good, so what. :-?
Oh, I guess I just wish that someone would take the time to actually write some new music--instead of "lifting" what was written in the past. Silly me. (sigh)
"Lost inside adorable illusion...."
You know Marky that I'm not opposed to samples and let me tell you that on first hearing I thought what a great idea: Simply Red doing a "How long" cover with a sample of "I can't go for that"! But it's not that Ace song, or is it?
Strannnnge! I like Simply Red doing soul covers, but this one let me with a weird feeling...
It don't mean a thing (if ain't got that swing)
I must say, "When I heard that track on my answering machine" , I was impressed! It was refreshing to hear that cover done 2003 style. I still don't know who made the cover tune.
Keep the faith and everything will come your way as time marches on!
De La Soul sampled that song for "Say No Go" on their first album.
the song i think you have heard is from simply red.
but theres another whitelabel, with a truly magnificent housemix!
I was wondering if anyone knew of another remix with the "I Can't Go For That" sample. I am a dj that spins mostly breaks, but back in the mid to late 90's i was into some funky house. I use to go to Dallas dance clubs. I remember a Dj Funk W who used to spin at the Lizard Lounge & he played a funky house remix that had the Hall & Oates sample in it, but it also had this (if i'm right about this sample) in it as well "Funky Rhyme, Double up the pack" or maybe it was "Funky Ron, Double up the pack" . But indeed it was a very funky house remix with that sample. The Dj Eric - We Are Love is close, but it's not the same version i heard, as the version i heard never used the "we are love" in it. So this would have to be an underground version of it. Can anyone tell me if they might know what remix that was that i heard?
a here today, gone tomorrow boy band named "C Note" sampled "I Can't Go" almost in its entirety and had the audacity to perform it on "Soul Train". The song was called "Wait Til I Get Home". You may want to check youtube to see if it's there.
I liked this track so much that I made the Sampler re-sampled (by myself).
Sunrise / K-Limero's Gentle Edit
I found it a bit too short of intro and outro for mixing so I've stretched it a few seconds.
