    Wonderful Life

Is anyone familiar with a pretty island/reggae sounding song called "Wonderful Life" by Black?

I don't recall this ever being a big hit, but perhaps it was outside of the U.S. It's certainly not a peak hour song, but for a cocktail hour or warm-up set it would be perfect.

Dear nrgbeat: that song was heavily played on FM radio in my country (circa 1984-5). I think it's a British artist, remember his white face, short hair, certainly he looked like a Martian
A nice "white soul" track, maybe too "nice" for my taste.
It don't mean a thing (if ain't got that swing)

    Nrg,

I have this 12" but I don't remember the music, only the cover. That tells me I wasn't really impressed but something at the time made me buy it. I'm going to pull it tomorrow and give another listen. I think you're right about it not going over big here in the U.S.

Well, I finally played this number and have to admit I was pleasantly surprised by the fact that it's a real nice soft-rock song. Nothing great or earth shattering but nice and easy on the head. Not thrilled with the man's voice but the music holds you. Sweet, although very short, sax solo near the end and the underlying reggae feel is almost non-existent.

My 12" on A&M Records Ltd. London has a total of four songs:

    Wonderful Life - 4:49
    Life Calls - 3:51
    Had Enough - 4:58
All We Need Is The Money - 4:23

"All We Need..." is another slow paced, soft piece. I even marked it for 'listening only'. The other two try to get into a harder rock edge but something lacks. "Had Enough" has touches of 60's rock 'n' roll and it hooks you for a little while. The problem again, for me, is the guy's voice. His baritone doesn't serve any of these songs well. All of them would work better without him.

Honestly can't imagine why I bought this :-? . Maybe my friend at the store slipped it in as a gift, which he would do every now and then, figuring I could use a break. :)
