    Andrea True Question

    Hey Everyone:

Hope all is well. According to VH1 and Artistdirect.com Andrea True had a 3rd album entitled "True Confessions." Does anyone have any info on this album, track list, date of release, etc? Any help would be appreciated thanks and take care.

The album was released in 1980, but other than that relatively pointless piece of information, I can't help you. :(

Are you serious? Andrea released a third album? Awesome. I definitely would like to hear it. I hope it's in the style of "More, More, More" and not her second one. If I find it, I will buy it. I just wished that she had continued her singing career.

    :o Are you serious?

Andrea True was one of the worst singers ever. "More, More, More" is a testament not to her vocal ability, but to Gregg Diamond's songwriting and astonishing production skills in the pre-Pro Tools era. Without Diamond, she was horrendous --witness all the tracks on "White Witch" except "NY You Got Me Dancing". Even Michael Zager couldn't make her sound decent.

And even if this third LP was produced by Diamond (which I doubt it was, as apparently True wanted to move on to other musical directions) I doubt it would be worthy. By 1980 Diamond had pretty much lost it, as proven by his mediocre "Hardware" and the Bionic Boogie "Tiger Tiger" LPs.

If you like "More, More, More" seek out more of Gregg Diamond's better productions, like the first two Bionic Boogie LPs, his own most excellent "Starcruiser" album, George McCrae's "Diamond Touch" LP, or even Gloria Gaynor's "Glorious".

    To Shockadelica:

Thanks for your info. It was not pointless at all.

    To Outsider:

According to the interview I saw on VH1's "Where Are They Now" a couple of years ago, the 3rd album was not in the style of the 1st or 2nd album at all. As Graham Start mentioned in his comments Andrea was moving to another music direction, trying to shed the disco image as so many disco artist shamefully did in the early 80's. VH1 mention that the album was more New Wave/Punk style then disco, but it flopped big time. VH1's WATN even showed a clip of a video she did from a single off the album. But I can't remember the name of the single. Hopefully someone has some more info on the album. Thanks for you comments.

Dude, you should know that I'm a big fan of hers. After all, I've only mentioned that about several zillion times since I started posting here (and that's been close to three years now). I love her singing on "More, More, More", and I've always felt that Gregg Diamond was just as important to that song and album as Andrea was. But everyone does have a right to their opinion, and you have as much of a right to yours as anyone else. And I also think that "White Witch" sucked, but I feel that "More, More, More" is excellent. Andrea and Gregg should have reteamed because they worked so well together. I will always feel that way.

I have heard some of Gregg Diamond's other productions, mainly Bionic Boogie. I love "Hot Butterfly" (which I believe featured some guy named Luther Vandross on vocals), and their other stuff was pretty cool from what I remember. I've also heard the song "Star Cruiser", which from what I remember is good as well. It's too bad that he's no longer alive, because if he was he could work with someone like Britney Spears. That combination sounds cool, but unfortunately it's only wishful thinking. By the way, what did he do after his Bionic Boogie/Star Cruiser period? I'm guessing that he was still involved in music up to his death. I doubt that someone like him would go away quietly.

See what I don't get to watch when I don't have cable? Anyways, you can see why I would be interested in hearing that album. I was never into new wave, but I would like to hear that album simply to hear what else she recorded, knowing that I haven't heard everything she has done. I may love it for all I know. If you find any more information on this album, please let me know.

I saw Andrea True in a double bill of "Every Inch a Lady" and "Illusions of a Lady" at the old Fine Arts Theatre in Worcester, Massachusetts in '74 or '75 (?). While I like "More, More, More (bought the original vinyl in '76, may still have it) she was a far better porn star than she was a singer.

Actually I was broken hearted when she gave up her porn career

Yeah, I saw the VH1 "Where Are They Now" program that showcased her. She was HOT when she was slidin' down the slippery pole in front of the cameras :o Now she's 63 and bagged out  It's a shame but age claims us all

To you all who never saw her in porn: she was hot!!!
Her sex scenes burned up the movie screen :D :D :D

I keep seeing websites that have "More, More, More" credited as "Andrea True / Samanta Fox". What's up with that and wasn't Fox a porn star also?

    Nicky,

On the CD, is it called "Boogie Tech"???--the Greg Diamond compilation...there is a strange merging of two versions of "More, More, More" that starts with Andrea True and segues into a version by Samantha Fox. so I would guess that's the source of what you're talking about.

I think Miss Fox did some porn too. The Brits should know better than I.

Yes, there was a porn star whose screen name was "Samantha Fox". She made several pornos in the very late '70s and early '80s. I have seen most of her films and she was really a good actress. She blazed her way across the sex screen for a few years and disappearred. She was a native of New York if I recall and born in '51. I think I have her real name around somewhere.
I have been watching porn since '69. I'm not a pervert but I consider myself a connosieur of visual erotica. Porn of today is not erotica. A lot of the porn from the '70's and early '80's was.

Let's start a discussion of classic porn!
The rise and popularity of classic porn mirrors the rise and evolution of Disco in many many ways!
They were both underground movements that came out of NYC :D

Hey, there's nothing wrong with that. Whatever floats your boat.

Porn of today is not erotica. A lot of the porn from the '70's and early '80's was.
Yeah, I suppose. Do you like any of today's porn?

Let's start a discussion of classic porn!
    I'm all for that.

But unlike disco, porn never died. Naturally, I wish disco hadn't.

I've never heard Samantha Fox's version of "More, More, More". However, I have heard a remake of the song by a band called Babes In Toyland, and from what I remember they did a pretty good version of it.

Porn has evolved and so has Disco.
I don’t like modern porn - everything seems so artificial and the surgically enhanced anatomy is a turn off for me. I like “real” people in realistic settings/story lines. That’s the fantasy - since I look like them (the actors) I could find myself in that situation! That’s the hook for erotica/fantasy! That’s what classic porn provided. I don’t get the same emotional tie in to today’s porn.

Back in the day the pornographers had to COMPETE for theatre time so the product continually improved. With the advent of video they didn’t have to compete for sh!t and the quality quotient took a dump.

I don’t know that Disco died. It certainly came off the radio and left the mainstream.
Disco has evolved over the past 20 years, my wife and I still go to dance clubs and we’re in our early 50s.

All of the great Disco artists are between 46 (Cheryl Lynn) and 63! How long can you keep cranking out hits!? Burnout must be an issue with a lot of them. Many more have died, far too many!!!!!!!! So much Disco talent has left us.
Don’t forget between 1980/81 and ’91-’92 AIDS absolutely devastated the talent pool!
New people come up, have their creative peak and are replaced by new talent yet again.
We’re talking about a style of pop music that is now 30 years old - that is such a long time. Nothing remains the same!

    Andrea True, Disco et al

Please remember also that Disco was so unlike anything we'd ever heard before!!!!!!!!!!!

Listen to Carly Simon's "That's the Way I've Always Heard it Should Be" or anything by Carole King or James Taylor.
Then listen to something by SalSoul Orchestra, Barry White
    (the DEFINITION OF KOOL :D :D ) EW&F and you'll understand!

I know what you mean. Today's porn stars are nothing more than Barbie-doll types, and it's hard to tell one from another. So I take it that someone like Jenna Jamison doesn't do it for you.

I like “real” people in realistic settings/story lines.
Unlike today's porno films, the older ones actually had plots.

That’s the fantasy - since I look like them (the actors) I could find myself in that situation! That’s the hook for erotica/fantasy! That’s what classic porn provided. I don’t get the same emotional tie in to today’s porn.
I see where you're coming from. It should be about more than just seeing people fucking.

Back in the day the pornographers had to COMPETE for theatre time so the product continually improved.
I believe that. Speaking of theaters, I'm sure you remember the Pussycat Theatre chain, which has now completely disappeared.

With the advent of video they didn’t have to compete for sh!t and the quality quotient took a dump.
Most modern porno films looked like they were filmed with a camcorder. The sound is usually horrible. Some exceptions are the ones directed by Andrew Blake. His films are technically top-notch. I recommend them, especially "Hidden Obsessions".

I don’t know that Disco died. It certainly came off the radio and left the mainstream.
That's what I meant when I said that disco died. This has been recently discussed on another thread, which I'm sure you have seen.

Disco has evolved over the past 20 years, my wife and I still go to dance clubs and we’re in our early 50s.
As you know, disco paved the way for all dance music that has come since, and that there is interest in disco these days. Look at this website, for example.

All of the great Disco artists are between 46 (Cheryl Lynn) and 63! How long can you keep cranking out hits!? Burnout must be an issue with a lot of them. Many more have died, far too many!!!!!!!! So much Disco talent has left us.

    That's so true.

I have to admit that I haven't seen a porno film in years. When I did watch porn, it was only occasionally. I was never a hardcore porn viewer, even when I was a teenager. But I can't get into them anymore. They're too laughable, and since I'm engaged I have no need to watch porno films.

Yeah, Jenna Jameson doesn't do a thing for me.
Check out Annette Haven, Leslie Bovee, Kelly Nichols, Veronica Hart, Samantha Fox, Abigail Clayton.
Used to go to the Pussycat Cinema on Washington St. in Boston's old Combat Zone :D

Actually, there's a very good porn talk forum called www.adultdvdtalk.com, but it's mainly about nu-generation porn, and extreme gonzo. There's a consensus in this forum that if you want storylines you don't really love porn, which i don't adhere too. It's more about : "Has xxx ever done a double a**l" or "why so and so doesn't do a** to mouth?", so i post less & less. There are v. articulate members though & it's an endless source of information (much like discomusic's forum actually). And their non-porn forums are a riot ! :D
Any Andrea True recommendation, by the way ?

On the topic of Samantha Fox, as you mention Brits, the singer & the porn actress are 2 different persons. Anyone who's seen the former's movies can attest to that.
Bananarama also covered "More More More" in the v.early 90's, as procuced by Stock Aitken Waterman. Good cover, if u like SAW.

Andrea True recomendations: "Illusions of a Lady" and "Every Inch a Lady".
I saw them both, they're quite good (hot), about 74-76 vintage and you won't believe Andrea's sexual gymnastics :D

Discoman, I've heard of at least most of the porno stars you mentioned. Are you a fan of such stars as Linda Lovelace, Marilyn Chambers, and Ginger Lynn? For some reason, I liked Ginger Lynn's movies back in the 80s (the peak of my porn viewing). And I didn't even think she's that pretty. And have you ever seen any of Traci Lords's movies before they were pulled off the shelf? There's nothing like a porno star who was underage at the time (lol).

Believe it or not, I've never seen "Deep Throat" (Lovelace's claim to fame). But I have seen "Behind The Green Door" (the film that introduced the world to Marilyn Chambers), and from what I remember, in you only saw the first 20 minutes or so, you wouldn't think it was a porno film. But then it was from the day that there was more to porno films then just the sex scenes. In pretty much all modern porno films, the first sex scene happens within the first five minutes, maybe even during the opening credits. What do you expect when there is little or no plot to deal with?

Several years ago I bought a porno film starring Andrea True (I think it's called "Smashed" or something like that). I found it at some record store sidewalk sale for $2.00. I was just looking through this videotape box, and I happened to find that one. Since Andrea was listed in the credits, I had to get it. Are the two films you mentioned out on videotape? I haven't heard of either one, but perhaps someday I will watch them if possible.

I went to a Pussycat Theatre only once (the one in Santa Monica). I had heard stories about how you needed a towel when sitting on the seats (guess why?), but this was one of the cleanest theatres I have ever been too (no towel needed). It closed in the mid-90s, making it one of the last around.

    how I do like it

"More More More" was the 1st single I ever bought. I love the album of that name, love "N.Y. You Got Me Dancing" at leasrt as much as the aforementioned song, was less pleased with the rest of 'White Witch" but even love my remix album. I wish I hadn't passed by her collection on The Right Stuff label; but saw it last year at a Virgin Megastore in Japan, now have to try to get there in September when I visit Japan again. It was good to read more about her album after "White Witch." I am not a fan of porn of anyone, though.
