    Gregg Diamond's Last Disco Project?

    ******

..... Following his instant fame from producing Andrea True's debut in 1976, Gregg Diamond , disco producer extraordinaire, continued to shine and sparkle his brightest through 1977- 1978 with stellar releases (Andrea True ,George McCrea, Bionic Boogie) , then seems to vanish altogether (???) in 1979 after some lesser releases that year .

Looking at his works in discogs .... the following release from his 1979 LP HARDWARE, appears to be if not his last , then certainly amongst his very last creations .

    GREYHOUND BUS

What an odd digression ...... from the futuristic, jet-propulsioned, space-bound imagery he conjured up in STAR CRUISER.....
    to this
---- that of the less-than- glamorous, everyman's adventure of slowly riding on a diesel -fueled

    ... Greyhound bus .

It's a curious creation I think ... perhaps a reflection of the frustration of the elusive follow-up hit , --- despite so many excellent projects --- that failed to follow the mega success of Andrea True's MORE MORE MORE ....

    This being
almost an attempt to one-up the silly (but commercially successful)) themes of Village People compositions which in some ways this seems to imitate.

If this is what it takes to have a radio hit (!!) .....here ya go :

    "don't push!
    just,
leave the driving to us .

    what's the rush !!
    take the bus !!
    " ..................................good grief!!

    Baby, take me
    high upon a hillside

    high up where the stallion
    meets the sun

hey there...well Gregg being by all time fav disco producer and artist I can see what you mean after his Bionic lps and the amazing lps for George Mc Crae and of course Andrea. Im actually listening to "Hardware" right now,,,In Australia, I had to order it from Boogie Bogs on a converted cd.I found the (short) album to satisfy me and continued with his zany lyrics and style.I certainly dont think it was for radio appeal! The only track released was "Shinin" which is great number but my favourite is the opening track 1/8 th of Your Love.I have often thought it was weird how he vanished after his glut of material during the 1970's. I see no comparison to the Village People. But i wish he had have had more chart success.I know both Bionic Boogie albums had heavy club play, but he only charted at US No 105 with "Dance Little Dreamer", "Cream.." at UK No 61 and "Starcruiser" at US No 102.But I think he was a true musical hero...chart possies of course mattered to the companies, but he had his vision..and he did it...but it baffles me as much as you...what did he do after 79???
