    because of Marky's list,

I traded FROM HERE TO ETERNITY out for EVOLUION - it just always made me "feel" something ..... and if I were at a TROC reunion party between the two .... I'd moreso disintegrate over the latter ....

HA! I've made these lists here so many times! My faves never seem to change...so it's getting to be a habit.
I just think of my list and start typing...I do have some runner-up choices but I won't mention them now.
let the others have a chance to mention them.

Good topic, remmy. People like making the lists and will participate.

drlove---good picks with the Kiss ["I Was Made For Lovin' You'] & the Ace Frehley ["New York Groove"]
.....couldn't make them Top 10 myself--but probably somewhere in the #11-20 slots....especially "I Was Made For Lovin' You"

Things get more complicated outside of the USA. In Canada, many Casablanca titles appeared on other labels, either because they were licensed by Casablanca only for the US market (e.g. Santa Esmeralda) or were licensed to other labels outside of the US (for example, The Ritchie Family and Dennis Parker were released in Canada by Able). And if you really want to get pedantic, you could add a whole bunch of stuff originally on the 20th Century label, because when PolyGram reissued those titles in the 80s, they put them under the Casablanca banner.

Yes, I just love making things more complicated. That's something I do.

Re: Not Including Donna .... Your Top Ten Casablanca DISCO Songs:

This one handcuffs me a bit (well, of course it does- let me explain). If the Motown list could be done without artist omission (and if you were going to omit- the likely candidate would have been Diana Ross) then why not this one?

Personally thinking off the top of my head- my top ten Casablanca list would have 2 Donna songs. Wasn't omitting Donna Summer more a personal elective rather than something which would have affected everybody? Except for the pinhead who would undoubtedly write in "Donna is my top ten without her there is no disco"?- but even they would count as we know there would only be one....? On a general subject board I think your rules would be wise as there is less specific expertise the more you get into open water- but this is the shallow pool. We are focused here. There are people here who reallyreallyreally know their stuff. I think those people could be given the benefit of their hard earned knowledge- whether alcohol, sex or popper fueled nights, days behind a couunter or a mixing board, evenings researching or remixing or any combination of the above (plus more!).

I dunno....jus' askin. I know I'll eventually play along to get along....but you know....I just wanted clarification of intent.

Gosh I had no idea such a simple thread concept , could wind up being so complicated !!!

As for Bruce's observations about global variables ..... he's got a point - so wherever you are in the world ... the disco songs you associate with the Casablanca label : ......go for it!!

And Donald ..... I don't know .... you don't like limiting it to Ten, you don't like putting them in order, and now you don't like leaving out Donna!

But this is the way it works around here ... whoever creates the thread - gets to create its rules ! Now if someone wants to just blow them off .....there's no disco internet police that's gonna come offer-up a well-deserved spanking ..... so anyone can answer any way they like ....without repercussions. BUT ! if you want to answer in the spirit of the thread's intentions ..............then YEP ... them are the rules.

Your asking , why leave out Donna?
Nothing covert here. The reason it occurred to me to leave Donna out was simply because of her wealth of material .... just sorting through her songs is a an assignment in of itself (and we did it already) and I just think she winds up overshadowing so much else from the label. I thought it'd be interesting to learn the other Casablanca music members here treasure when we venture beyond Donna.

I didn't do that with Diana over at Motown because I didn't feel Diana Ross carried the same kind of disco weight . Her disco output was pretty spotty. One album of Donna's material alone ( i.e ONCE UPON A TIME ) has probably double the number of all of Diana Ross's disco songs.

So anyway, that's the way this thread was ingeniously set up, but if anyone just HAS to include Donna ... . hey .... (eyes rolling and cool shades on ) .... in some ways - its still a free country!

    or better yet !

create your own thread to suit yourself: call-it something like:

YOUR TOP TEN (TWENTY -THIRTY) CASABLANCA SONGS INCLUDING DONNA'S.

That'd be an interesting thread too.... and I wouldn't be surprised if for some , their top ten Casablanca songs are indeed all Donna Summer songs !

I wouldn't be offended by the creation of such a thread, .... in fact if one turns up :
I promise to summit my list to it .

    *******

You'll never believe it but I nearly started this thread after finding your Motown one fun (sorry, I was gonna nick your idea!), but i had the same reservations as Bruno 'cos most Casablanca stuff came out on other labels in the UK & the same applied to other disco labels like Prelude, Salsoul & WestEnd. However, now I see that you have a relaxed approach to things I will go ahead with my 10!

    1. From Here To Eternity - Giorgio
    2. Touch Me Baby medley - Ultimate
3 My Love Is Music - Space
    4. I Love America - Patrick Juvet
    5. Romeo & Juliet - Costandinos
    6. If You Weren't Afraid - Giorgio
    7. Disco Choo Choo - Nightlife Unlimited
    8. Swiss Kiss - Patrick Juvet
    9. Like An Eagle - Dennis Parker
    10. Bring Your Sweet Loving Back - Starpoint
    10. tie Aint Nothing Gonna Keep Me From You - Teri Desario

Okay then... not in order, but...

    Dennis Parker: Like An Eagle
    Alec R. Costandinos: Trocadero Suite
KISS: Detroit Rock City (close second: the bizarre, untitled loop that ends Destroyer)
    Skatt Bros: Walk The Night
    Giorgio Moroder: Chase
Giorgio Moroder: From Here To Eternity
Giorgio Moroder: I Wanna Rock You
Village People: San Francisco (You've Got Me)
    Paris Connection: Eloise
The Alan Parsons Project: The Fall of the House of Usher/To One In Paradise (okay, Tales of Mystery and Imagination was originally on 20th Century, but PolyGram reissued it on the Casablanca imprint in the 80s... I know that's cheating, but I really do think it's incredibly brilliant)
