It's GLITTER, of course. Did that get a proper theatrical run in the states at all? I saw it in a multiplex with an audience of one, me. Mariah arriving to greet her mother wearing an evening dress was the final straw. On the other hand some of the club scenes were okay, and you got to hear a Lime track, too. Now I only wish they'd realese a proper dvd of DIRTY WEEKEND, an amazing 90's throwback to the early 70's by the ever reliable Michael Winner, restaurant critic and bon vivant with no style. The director of DEATH WISH and THE SENTINEL thought he'd deliver an arthouse film based on Helen Zahivi's bestseller but naturally only managed a hideous sleazefest with nudity, excessive gore and cheesy easy listening theme music. Lia Williams stars as the vigilante Bella who cleans up the scum in the seaside town of Brighton. Overweight people with gross skin problems appear naked. 3 thughs attempt to rape a 80yrs old wino - one sticks her fingers up up and shouts: " awww, there's a wart in there!".

Boodikka, notify the Anchor Bay company.

Yes, but I think it lasted less than a week. In addition to being a horrid film, the timing couldn't have been worse (right around 9/11).

I saw it with a friend when it came out on DVD here a few weeks ago -- we just had to know how bad it was. Needless to say, even on a Friday night, there were still plenty of copies available at the video store. The plot had more holes than a sponge the size of Kazakhstan. The whole thing just doesn't make sense.

On the upside, the film's creators quickly realized that Mariah had the same acting capabilities of a statue, so they gave her as little dialogue as possible.

On the downside, this film will likely be denied the honour of being the worst movie of 2001, simply because Tom Green's "Freddy Got Fingered" came out in the same year. I haven't seen the latter, but based on detailed descriptions that I've read, it could possibly be the worst commercially released film ever.

Oh, and speaking of bad movies... I was briefly in the local HMV last night, and saw that "Training Day" was now out on video. Watching this film was like having my teeth pulled out in slow motion. First movie I've ever walked out on.

    I actually LIKED Glitter.

I debated seeing it in the theatre. (locally it was playing on TWO screens, porobobly the only multiplex in the country to do that) but got the DVD instead.

By the way, that other trash milestone--Can't Stop the Music--is also out on DVD now. (Not sure if this is news, but...) And the latest issue of Entertainment Weekly gives it an A grade!
