Inner City Express "Dance And Shake Your Tamborine" / "Shu Dig Dancin.."

I had a joyous experience yesterday. I went to a record store I have not been to for a while not really expecting anything. But I found gold! In the $1 bin at that...a sleeve instantly drew me to it, it read "DISCO DIRECTION CLASSICS: Inner City Express - Dance And Shake Your Tamborine, and had a fantastic cover featuring a group of youths hanging out outside a disco, one guy has a pair of rollerskates over his shoulders..anyways I instinctively knew I d like it.And I was not disappointed! I believe the original group was Bumblebee Unlimited (?) but its definitely written by Patrick Adams and Greg Carmichael. I have not heard their version. But this one is amazing, a slower groove, funky as hell and its been in my head all day.The flip side is equally amazing - if not better!- and is called "Shu Dig Dancin' (In My Hi-Heeled Shoes)." I instantly had to get down when I heard it.A very funky track. So I was seeing if anyone else had any experiences with this record...

I am familiar with a different issue of "Shu' dig dancin'...", released as an A side on the Ebony record label with "Fat on funk" on the flip. I agree that it's a great track!

The one I have is the same as this:

And much sought after, so that was lucky!

Yeah well its definitely strong enough to be an A side. Also I found out thanks to my trusty Disco Files book from Vince Aletti it was actually Universal Robot Band not Bumblebee Unlimited as I originally thought..

That's pretty good you found that record for a good price. I haven't bothered trying to drop money for it because I've got them on a UK LP compilation. I don't know if they were based in the USA or Europe. My guess is the latter.

I think you're partly right about the whole Bumblebee Unlimited and Universal Robot Band connection at least. Both were Greg Carmichael productions.
