Playlist for Remember the White Party, 10-10-10!

Okay, sloooooowly feeling like a normal human being again after Sunday's over 10 hour event. We started at 6 pm and we went past 4 am!!! Management at the Glas Kat (The current incarnation of the Trocadero Transfer) was not well! But, how could our DJ Jerry Bonham stop? More people stayed to the end than ever before. Finally, people realized they needed to stay to experience Jerry's disco journey right to the very last song!

Anyway, recovery has been slow because we're exhausted and we're having some hot temps in San Francisco right now (well, warm for SF - in the mid to upper 80s!). I'm just glad the peak of this heatwave wasn't on Sunday, but if it did, I don't think it would have detracted one bit from the sheer joy of the evening.

For those of you who saw the ads for Remember the White Party, you'll notice quite an accent on "clasikos diskos"! There was a reason for that and you'll see when you get a look at Jerry Bonham's beautiful set!

The list will be coming in a few more days - it's now being compiled and set up for the Remember the Party website. In the meantime, for those of you who couldn't make it, I'll leave you with these hints.

As you know, Jerry paid tribute to Donna Summer during the evening. Earlier, he told me he planned to play 10 of her songs, which he ended up doing (well 11 if you count the tease he gave us). Thinking of the White Party, art deco and classic disco themes, can you figure out which ones? Also, which of Donna's early songs basically set up the theme for this party? It's one of her songs that Jerry has been wanting to play since he started spinning the RtPs?

I also have to say, the memorabilia that Donna's team sent to us so that Under One Roof (an organization that helps out so many in SF) could auction off and raise funds was amazing! The highlights to me were the autographed pieces (by Donna and Bruce Sudano!) and the fab Francesco Scavullo photos! Wait til you see the photos!

Re: Playlist for Remember the White Party, 10-10-10!

    Oh goody-- guessing games! lol

Well I'm sure the party was beyond perfection and I can't wait to hear it.

    Guesses...

...since the White Party was an Spring event--usually around Easter--I'll venture that "Spring Affair" was the theme setter...

I spent the past summer giving all the parties another listen and I recall Mr. Bonham already memorably playing at his previous parties:

    "MacArthur Park/Sunset People/Now I Need You/Could It Be Magic/Lucky/With Your Love & I Feel Love...so I'll eliminate those with one exception

Considering DS classics not yet on a JB RtP party, l'll guess 10 I would most love to hear:

    1) "Spring Affair"
    2) "Come With Me"
    3) "Love's Unkind"
    4) "Our Love"
    5) "Once Upon A Time/Faster & Faster To Nowhere/Fairy Tale High/Say Something Nice" (some combination of those...maybe not all 4)
    6) "Hot Stuff/Bad Girls"
    7) "No More Tears, (Enough Is Enough)" ..peak time, maybe?
    8) "Love Is In Control (Finger On The Trigger)"--a longshot-but I personally love it.
    9) "Love To Love You Baby" -morning music, I would guess
and 10) I would guess a repeat of "I Feel Love"--how can it be ignored in a Donna Summer Festival???

Whatever he played, I'm sure it will melt my soul when I listen.

Re: Playlist for Remember the White Party, 10-10-10!

Hey not bad, Mark! You guessed 3 1/4 of the songs (one of the 4 in #5). "Spring Affair" was indeed the song that basically set the theme! Mmmmmmmm the set surrounding "Spring Affair" - preceded by two big Troc favs remixed by John Luongo. Then, a natural progression from Spring Affair to the next song. Jerry told us he went back and forth if he should play this song then decided why not? I'm so glad he did.

And you're right, "I Feel Love" couldn't be ignored but the way Jerry snuck it in was unexpected but perfect. Do I need to tell you this was one of the "sing along" songs during the evening? The song sounded fresh again with everybody cheering and singing, the spectacular lighting effects going crazy (Carla, Bobby M. and Chris were positioned in better places this year so that the mirror ball cluster was hit on all sides!) and the smooth sound system which Randall Schiller Productions came in to augment for our event (as Randy has done for the last couple of RtPs - he knew the sound system from back in the day and he still does).

I'll give you one more, a tribute to Donna just had to include the song that started it all for her and Jerry did bring "Love To Love You Baby" into his beautiful beautiful morning set!

Re: Playlist for Remember the White Party, 10-10-10!

    3 and 1/2 just won't do!!!!

    6 more guesses:

    1) TRY ME I KNOW WE CAN MAKE IT
    2) LAST DANCE
    3) WASTED
    4) SUMMER FEVER (?)--is that what you meant by "natural progression after "Spring Affair"?
    5) RUMOUR HAS IT
    6) I LOVE YOU

Pertinent question: were there more repeat records from previous parties other than "I Feel Love"?

Re: Playlist for Remember the White Party, 10-10-10!

Yay! You earned more points, Mark!! You are now up to 6 1/4 plus you guessed the snippet. I'm going to save that as a surprise for everyone. There is a story behind the snippet too, but don't know if I can reveal. Let's just say I had to break out laughing when Jerry did what he did because he addressed a particular dilemma so creatively!

Jerry did let the Four Seasons of Love medley go on to "Summer Fever"!! Sounded sooooooooooo GOOD in the club!

Okay, so on your latest list, I'll confirm you have No. 1, 4 and 6 correct.

There were repeat songs, some going back from the first two RtPs, so they were played by Robbie Leslie rather than Jerry. But you know Jerry, he will make the songs sound fresh again!

Re: Playlist for Remember the White Party, 10-10-10!

    6 and 1/4 is a little better.
    Recap:

    1) Spring Affair
    2) Summer Fever
    3) I Feel Love
    4) Try Me I Know We Can Make It
    5) I Love You
    6) snippet:I'm guessing the intro of "Last Dance" (a JB bait & switch where he plays the intro of something and then slams into a different tune?)
+ the 1/4 right answer : guessing "Once Upon A Time"

    for my next selections:

    1) MacArthur Park Suite (including Heaven Knows + One Of A Kind) --does that count as 3?
    2) On The Radio (Robbie Leslie played this)
    3) Could It Be Magic (Repeat)

for morning music mixing...hard to come by in the Summer bpm oeuvre,
    I'll dig deeper:
    4) Theme From "The Deep" (Deep Down Inside)
    5) State Of Independence
    6) Winter Melody

    Hi Mark,
Guess again on your 1/4 right answer. LOL! Also, for this set, yes, MacArthur Park Suite needs to be considered as 3. Your score remains at 6 1/4.

BTW, Barry Walters reminded me that Jerry did special mixes for RtWP of "Try Me, I Know We Can Make It" and "Love To Love You Baby" - creating fab mixes of all the best parts of these long songs!

Now, remember the themes of our Remember the White Party! ;o)

    Hi Remicks!
Jerry did surprise us with a song from Barry Manilow's discography that was very appropriate to the evening (very fun!), but it wasn't "Could It Be Magic"!

Sorry, the score remains unchanged. LOL!

Once again, I remind you of the themes incorporated into this year's party. Here's another hint, people who used to go to the Troc were usually what? ;o)

Re: Playlist for Remember the White Party, 10-10-10!

Mark, you have two songs listed on your already rejected list that I didn't reject. Remicks does list one of the song as a guess in his subsequent message! I must add that Jerry added a very nice touch with his remix of the song!

Next, of course Jerry played "I Remember Yesterday"! I thought that someone would have guessed that tune at the very beginning! Wait until you see and hear what he paired this song up along with another surprise snippet. BTW, Remicks he didn't pair up "I Remember Yesterday" with Dr. Buzzard's Original Savannah Band, but he did pair up "Cherchez La Femme" with "Copacabana"!! Will that do??? "Cherchez" was the second of two Dr. Buzzard songs during the evening. Care to venture a guess on the second??

Got to spread this message around, the people of the world should be getting down. Moving my feet, headed towards the floor. Gonna get down and get down some more!

We did! People this year coming as far as New Zealand and Australia, Finland (Mr. Jussi Kantonen who danced from the beginning to the end!) and Brazil (I think Chris told me Brazil).

You guys are sooooo close, so here are some hints for the last two tracks (not including the snippet)! First off, a recap of the songs you have guessed in the order of appearance:

    1. I Remember Yesterday
    2. Try Me, I Know We Can Make It
    3. Spring Affair
    4. Summer Fever
    5. I Feel Love
    6. Fairy Tale High
    7. ?
    8. I Love You
    9. ?
    10. Love To Love You Baby
    11. The snippet

One of the missing tracks can be found on two different albums, one not by Donna. The second missing track is so close to another. Now remember, Jerry Bonham loves to tell a story in music!

Actually Remicks, "Heaven Knows" is in the Number 7 slot! Mark, you had the song all lumped together as the MP Suite. That's why I mentioned to treat each of the 3 songs separately. ;o) Now, what other album can you find this track on and how is that version different? I think most of you know the answers to those questions. Jerry took full advantage of the differences!

The snippet is not from Sunset People.

A conclusion for No. 9 is so close!

As for "Sing, Sing, Sing," yes Jerry did spin the track but not in his wind up set, which is where we found "I Remember Yesterday." Surprisingly, he had the song in the portion of his set as he was winding down to morning music. In fact, he played Charlie Calello two songs before "Cherchez La Femme" and two songs after the other Dr. Buzzard cut that we heard (which was not "Sour And Sweet"). When you see the songs in this portion of the evening, I think you'll understand why people easily stayed glued to the dancefloor all night long! Just as you thought you were getting tired, Jerry would splash you with a refreshing and rejuvenating surprise to keep your feet dancing, dancing! :o)

Btw, I gave you a major hint as to the songs surrounding "I Remember Yesterday" in my earlier post!
