Put this up on DJ History Webpage yesterday and already over 1100 hits in 24 hours...
This is out on October 18th, hot on the heels of the recent Philly remixes.

According to Amazon it also includes an outtake of Sheila B's 'Your Love is Good'. Sounds like an exciting set - just love the 12" of Norma Jean's 'Sorcerer'.(& it's all chronological too!) I have to say I was disappointed with the Chic mixes of the 'Diana' tracks though.

Nile Rodgers has mentioned several times there would be a vinyl version as well, so who knows! There will also be a 12" of the Dimitri from Paris of "Your Love Is Good" which will not be on the box set.
Dimitri made this new remix that im in love with using Prince's hit, I Wanna Be Your Lover. I found it on THE HOOK! i recommend it to all fans! http://blog.thehook.ca/2010/10/music...rom-paris.html
Dimitri has said that his mix of "Your Love Is Good" will be available on Digital & Vinyl only and will not be on the Box Set:

Now Tom Moulton has mixed "Everybody Dance", "Spacer", "I Like Love", & "We Are Family" for the VOLUME 2 Chic Box Set.
I heard them and they are soooo nice..... I hope this comes soon....I mean Vol. 1 ain't even on the shelves yet, and I'm already fiending for Vol. 2!!!
V excited about this. There are quite a few tracks I have not heard, obviously all the Johnny Mathis stuff which should be interesting since I love his disco stuff like "Gone Gone Gone" and "Begin The Beguine", and it will be interesting to see what Dimitri has done with the remixes.Im glad that "High Society" and "Sorcerer" will be on there..maybe "I Like Love" will be on Vol 2? I am only weary of "Why" by Carly Simon.I have it on one of those cheap disco compilations and I was not too impressed.Maybe it was a tacky remix version but I guess time will tell.I wonder if the box set will include liner notes, photos etc? Whatever the case it will be great to own this.2010 has been a wonderful year for disco music!![]()

A nice box set.
The idea of a box set with both their songs and the songs they produced for others is of course excellent.
And all the main songs are here. It's great to have the disco hits (including the 12" version of "My forbidden lover" not available elsewhere) and songs like "Why" and "Soup for one" in their long version. The Fonzi Thornton songs are great, much better than the Johnny Mathis' ones. Personally I understand why the album was shelved (the same goes with the original mix of "diana" we discovered in 2003 and I don't understand why on this box set we have the Chic mix of "Upside down" with its awful "I'm awa-a-a-a-re" in the middle).
The Dimitri from Paris' remixes are neither bad nor good. He takes five songs and streches them adding little touches. In the case of "I feel your love comin' on" it's almost imperceptible. In the case of "Lost in music" it sort of ruins the song for me with an additional overdub and vocal samples taken from the 1984 remix. "Saturday" can't really bare 9 min. 51 sec.
Apparently they were few things left in the vault (except the Mathis tapes) and for what we have it isn't really exciting: "Hold me lonely boy" long version is just an extended, a little repetitive. "Just hold me" is a nice song from 1983 that didn't make it to the album.
The box set ends with a 7:50 studio chat and laughters. They could have skipped this one.
The booklet is not very informative. Some pictures are nice (even if they would have been nicer if we could've seen them in a decent scale) but Rodgers says in the liner notes the same ususal things we already know. This is not a booklet with all the details like the ones we have with Motown for instance.
I hope the vol. 2 will be OK too.

Dimitri's remix of 'I Want Your Love' is really good - doesn't detract too much from the original and doesn't mash up the original into some incomprehensible dross. Roger Sanchez did an amazing job remixing the same track under the guise of 'Twilight' and that for me was an excellent remix/reworking of this immortal classic. The box set is brilliant - anything still coming out of the Chic Organization after 30+ years is a triumph and credit to Rodgers and (the late) Edwards. I for one will continue to invest in their music for many more years to come.
Saw You On The Dance Floor, Telling Me You Wanna Go, As We Danced The Night Away, I Wanted You To Stay.
I have just finished listening to the box set and I love it. Few remarks though, I don't like the Dimitri remix of "I Want Your Love", his others are fine, but this one sounds too much like a cut-job to me. Chic is all about restraint and his mix in my opinion is too busy with the bassdrum now four on the floor and the over-use of the glockenspiel. I much prefer this re-edit which stays true to the original:
http://soundcloud.com/moplen/chic-i-...ve-moplen-edit
And I agree the studio chatter for "When You Hear This Song" could have been left out, I kept on waiting for the song to finally begin, but it never does. It would have been better to include it in the open disc section on the web.
I love this set. I think it's very well executed.
The DFP remixes are not bad at all, IMO, though I would have preferred a "bonus disc" with those and the originals (in their longest available versions) included throughout the set.
I understand why they went with the CHIC mixes on the Diana Ross stuff...it's because the released mixes do not reflect their true vision. Motown (Russ Terrana, IIRC) re-recorded the vocals, and added various differences to the mixes. I think they were good choices, on the whole, but I couldn't fault Nile for using their originals instead...it's a CHIC box, not a Diana Ross box, after all.
Having now heard the entire Mathis album, I think it's CRIMINAL they didn't include "I Love My Lady" in place of "It's Alright To Love Me". The album, I feel, is much stronger than the tracks on this set out of context.
And I disagree on the studio chatter. I think it was an incredibly fitting way to end the box. I was captivated by it...every second...especially after reading in the liners how Nile listened to the "stuff between the songs" as soon as he got the box of tapes from FedEx. The mistake here was they shouldn't have called it an "outtake", like they did with the other actual outtakes on the box. This should have been labelled as a "session comp" or "studio chatter" or something like that.
Otherwise, I am really satisfied. And I look forward to Box 2, though if it covers 1983-onward we might wind up with some less essential stuff, live stuff, etc. There are, however, the Madonna "Material Girl" sessions in that time range, though.
