Best From Artist 50 - The Mighty, Mighty Spinners

Yes, I have the live album :)
These men were my favorite for much of the seventies. In truth though, I never really thought their disco cuts were all that. I always felt Rubberband Man leaned towards being camp. When I saw them perform the song with rubberbands on Merv Griffin's or Mike Douglass' show, that settled it for me  Anyway they did them and therefore they qualify as a topic at this site and in this forum.
I could easily rattle off half a dozen songs but as of 11:41 pm pacific time, 6/8/03, my choice is I'll be around. That song was my original favorite from them.

    Paul,
I ditto your comment about Rubberband Man... Just a little to cheesy for me. 2 Years in a row.. I saw them at Humphrey's outdoor concert :D they rule!!!!!

I like so many songs from them equally, I'll list those:

    It's A Shame
One Of A Kind (Love Affair)
Could It Be I'm Falling In Love
    I'll Be Around
Love Or Leave (7" mix) Atlantic 3309
Paul, the 7" is a must have.... have you heard it?? :)

Damn, I haven't even gotten to Skyy yet  and you've moved on.

Here are my two (yeah, just two :) ):

Ballad: "The Winter of Our Love"
    Dance: "I'll Be Around"

No matter what I hear from them, and there's a lot I like, "I'll Be Around" just gets me all the time with that classic Philly backup.

OK, I lied. New category (Because of the upcoming documentary, I think I'll try and list these with Paul's artist picks):

    Gallery fave: "Mighty Love"

I haven't heard the 7" version at least that I would recognize it as such. I do have the "Pick Of The Litter" album with that song. By the way, I had to cheat. I didn't recall "Love Or Leave." I had to check it out at Amazon. Then I saw it was one the albums I have.

You know, I'm gonna have to play it and get back to ya. It's been years and this isn't the version I normally pull out of my stack.

    Hi Paul :)

I kind of forgot about The Spinners, so when I saw your thread I decided to listen to them (I had to dust off the cd). Don't get me wrong, its just that some cds get more airplay than others. Anyway my choices are:

    1.Mighty Love
    2.Ghetto Child

The Spinners are one of my favorite R&B acts, and here are my favorite songs of theirs:

    "It's A Shame"
"Could It Be I'm Falling In Love"
    "I'll Be Around"
"Working My Way Back To You/Forgive Me Girl"

    I Can't believe nobody mentioned "I'm Coming Home". :-?
Penned by Bell/Creed, it also recieved a very funky workout by bass player Christian Mcbride a few years ago.

Sometimes I gather when Paul does his weekly review on artists that you guys have to focus on danceable track from these artists... I don't think that's the case :)
If a song is good, than so be it..

By the way, am I the only one here that likes "Love Or Leave"???? :(
