7 inch singles that are better than the extended version

All of us that love disco are fanatical over extended versions of songs-the longer the better, how else can you have the peaks and valleys of a record that we live for, or those extended breaks that set our hearts and minds-not to mention our feet on fire? But sometimes the single version of a record is actually better. I was listening to Meco's Star Wars and the single is just perfect-so much better than the overblown, all over the place lp. As a matter of fact the same could be said for Close Encounters and Empire Strikes Back. So, I wondered what records the forum would think was better in its edited version. Maybe someone already covered this topic but it was of intrest to me so I decided to post it.

I always preferred the 7" version of 'I Dont Want Nobody Else To Dance With You' by Narada Michael Walden to the 12". & 'Im A Man' by Macho is IMO better when it's edited as I just find it has an unimaginative arrangement in its full length LP version.

I think you have really nailed it with that one.
Someone brilliantly whittled down the larger composition keeping just the highlights to create a tight, nothing-wasted , action-packed single version .

I can't think of a better example or one even close .........

What's a shame, is that, all the beautiful instrumentals, that were on the B side, of the 45, were never carried over, when the 12" was born.
Always looking for remastered 12\" versions on CD

Anything by Bohannon after the Stop & Go LP (and corresponding singles) until he did the Summer Groove record with Let's Start The Dance in '78. I find the material between '74 and '76 really too long and boring. James Brown could be accused of having the same groove for too long in his jams, but he mixed it up with interesting solos, and his rapping. Bohannon just kept the same sound going, and even his bridge sections were unimaginative, going up or down a semi-tone, if that's the right way to describe them, then returning back to the home key.

    Here's an example
