Hey mate, they are some cool records you've picked up.

Are you on Soulseek by any chance? If you are then maybe we can share some disco/funk MP3's, I've got well over 1000 of them shared so feel free to download from me, I'm on there as funkydude74.

    Cheers

Yes, a brilliant selection there. I also acquired THp's Tender Is The Night LP & Ritz's Dance Until You Drop in the last 12 months & they've hardly been off my turntable! :P I know this is trivial, but is the Real Thing 12" on yellow vinyl as all the copies I've seen here in the UK are.

    Steely,

The yellow vinyl you're speaking of, I asume is for a UK pressing?? Anyway, mines your normal black vinyl. It's an Australian pressing on Astor DS-12047.

The RITZ 12" is also an Australian pressing on Epic. (white label promo)

The VOYAGE lp is an Australian pressing too, on RCA. All other records I listed are US copies.

FUNKYDUDE: Would be more than happy to share MP3s with you. Can you give me more info on that place, as I'm not on it. Let me know what you're looking for, I'll see if I can help at all.

Hi Discohunter. You can download Soulseek software from http://www.slsk.org/ and when you sign in you just sign in with a username and password and you share the folders you want to share.

Anyhow some songs that I'm really after are:
Calhoun - Dance Dance Dance 1975
Bobby Sax & The New Messiah - Outhouse '73 1973 (I've got a low quality radio version of it)
Modern Romance - High Life 1983 (I have the video clip on a 1983 Countdown episode plus a live performance of it on the Kenny Everrett Show, but surprisingly it's hard to find it on MP3 despite the fact it was high on the Aussie charts in 1983)
Liquid Pleasure (any of their stuff, I've got "Take A Little Love" and LOVED that song so I would love to hear what their other disco jams are like)
Dark Tan - Island In The Sun (You mentioned you got the 12" version of it, I have the short version and would love to hear the long version)
Hot City Bump Band (I heard that this Aussie group was a soul/funk/disco group, I have their soul performance "Do What You Wanna Do" on a 1975 Countdown episode hosted by Sherbet, anyhow I would love to hear what their other stuff is like)

Anyhow those are some songs I can think of that I really would love to hear. I was also after JALN Band's "Get Up (And Let Yourself Go" song too but I'll soon get it as I'm bidding on a JALN Band record in UK on EBAY that has the song on it.

Anyhow let me know if there are some songs you're really after, I'll pretty much know if I have them as I know my record collection pretty well.

Have a good one mate! :D

Hi Discohunter. Your in luck, out of your wantlist I have the following:

Saturday Night Band - Come On Dance Dance (on MP3 full length 12:42, I assume this is 12", I downloaded this song recently too off Soulseek)
Silver Convention - Spend The Night With Me (album version on "Love In A Sleeper" LP 4:28)
Shampoo - Harlem hustle (on 12" Side A - Harlem Hustle, Side B - Harlem Hustle Part 2)
    El Coco - Cocomotion (on MP3 10:13, I assume is 12")

The ones on record I'll soon put them on MP3 and share them, the ones on MP3 are ready for download.

I'll add you to the user favourites list when I go on Soulseek.

    Have a good one mate :D !

Re: A day at the record fair

I went to a record collector's convention last weekend in San Francisco. I bought 3 albums, 2 of which I didn't even know existed: "Boys Town Gang greatest hits" (mint condition 2 record set) and the full length "Night Rider" album by Venus Dodson. I also bought an obscure George Harrison album called "Dark Horse"....all three albums were one dollar each. One guy at this show had nearly all the best stuff and the best prices. One other seller had driven all the way from Los Angeles (I doubt I'd drive from Los Angeles to San Francisco to sell records, especially since I wouldn't be sure I'd actually sell any). But midway through the show the guy from L.A. screamed "All my records are 50% off!" and I wandered over to look. Nearly all his records were overpriced anyway, and 50% off overpriced records was no bargain. I figured if I waited longer he'd drop the price ever further but it was getting late and I was getting hungry and tired. Next show is November 2009
