    Sheena Easton's "Modern Girl"

I didn't know there was an extended mix of Modern Girl by Sheena Easton although I dare say that the mix is quite a disappointment. Too bad they didn't create something more like Teri DeSario's Ain't Nothing Gonna Keep Me From You. Did this get many spins on the dancefloors in 1980 - 81?

In the UK in 1980 it did get some disco action it charted in Record Mirror Magazine's 'Pop Dance' chart i.e pop/rock tunes that get heavily rotated in nightclubs but didnt make their main 'Club Chart'.
This is a pure pop song that had a subtle hint of disco it was kind of the signpost to the Stock/Aitken/Waterman sound that would've dominated the UK chart later in the decade.

Yes, I always regarded it as an album cut with a light dancey feel so I was surprised to see a 12" extended mix. There were quite a few songs like this at the start of the '80s...that subtle disco touch but back then, one dare not describe it that way.

I've always loved this cut from the album. Nice to see it was extended it. I have never heard it anywhere though. So Sheena's string of dance/pop hits later in the decade didn't come "out of nowhere" after all !!
