    Any Funky Faves? Name 5

I know this is virtually impossible to answer, but I beg you to have a stab at it. There's jusr sooo many that I'd nominate if left to my own devices, but I'm gonna whittle it down to 5 only. These are not necessarily the only 5, but they'll do as a starter.

Hamilton Bohannon - Stop & Go 1973 - This record (so far as I can remember) more or less turned me on to funk as a viable alternative to Rock & Pop. Primitive, but Oh so effective. I knew I'd love almost everything this guy would do for many years to come, once I'd heard this.

Rhythm Makers - Zone - As a DJ, there weren't many records that still felt extra special after a few months playing. This was a record that totally blew any such notion out of the water. I still think this is one of the funkiest records ever made, after almost 30 years. That bass and clavinet!!

Commodores - Brick House - This record had such an amazing vibe surrounding it. One of those records that just felt soooo right. The groove was ohhhhhhh!!!! Can you guess how excited I got, playing this record.

Peoples Choice - Do It Anyway You Wanna - I would play this record at every opportunity. My 7" copies are absolutely knackered, especially the very beginning of each, which are burnt badly by the back cueing. This had everything to make me feel like I could conquer the World, so far as I was concerned. Records that made me feel this good were few and far between.

Ray Parker Jnr. & Raydio - Still In The Groove - OK there's probably a few others I could have chosen by Ray Parker Jnr, but this gave me goosebumps every time I played it. It was an absolute gem to mix in and out of other t'ings as well, at a time when 'Disco' was supposedly struggling.

The JBs 'I Wanna Thank You For Lettin' Me Be Myself (And You Be Yours)'
This completely tuneless, coarse and jagged little number confounded the hell outta me and I just caved in. What drums! What a bass line! Hadn't heard funk like that before! Still have 7" obtained in 1976. Raw!

Dynamic Corvettes 'Funky Music Is The Thing'
By no means a 'hard' funk record...but this has a bouyancy and ultimate dancability to smells like funk to me...

    James Brown 'Soul Power'
    The Man...can't say much more.

James Brown 'Give It Up (Or Turnit-a- Loose)'
Oh, can't I...party funk, bar none.

    Willie Mitchell 'Mercy'
A tad early for the wah-wah, but this still feels like being hit over the head with a frying pan!

Funkadelic 'One Nation Under A Groove'
    Funk/disco battlecry!

    Many, many more...

    Here's my Choices:

    George Duke - Pluck (1979)
    - One of the funkiest tracks ever made but nobody seem to know it. From the "Follow The Rainbow" album

David Bendeth - Feel the Feal

    Locksmith - Far Beyond

    Yellowjackets - Matinee Idol
    - The Fender Rhodes is just the funkiest instrument in the world :D

Johnny Guitar Watson - Funk Beyond The Call Of Duty
    There was life after disco!!

I voted for Peoples Choice---- during the last top 500 list... I must play that song 2-10 times a week. I'm such a fanatic for that song.... I found an extended mix 7:00+ at Winmx.com .... it's a killer.

anyways, I'm gonna list 5 at the top of my head. Because I've mentioned so many of my favorites plenty of times....

Funkadelic - Knee Deep (Warner Bros)
just an all around funker... George Clinton knows how to put out the ultimate jam that has stood the test of time...

James Brown - Funky President (People It's Bad) (Polydor)
I'll never get sick of this! Never!!! the break in the middle and at the end is incredibly funky. I love the singers chanting in the background "Hey Listen To The Man!,, Rap Godfather, Payback, Coldblooded" ....

Cameo - It's Serious (Chocolate City)
Incredibly... I like the LP and 7" version just about equally... The 7" version brings out the drums and high pitches better than the LP... I like the way it flows throughout the record.

Muscle Shoals Horns - Born To Get Down (Bang)
I don't normally like them this fast... however, I give a break to this song & (Mighty, Mighty)... get horn section, lyrics & just plain funky... I never could figure out what happened to them... they just kinda disappeared. :-?

Ohio Players - Streakin' Cheek To Cheek (Mercury)
This was such a cool song. Sometimes I get bored with long versions, but this one is funky all the way through.
