    Paper or Plastic Record Sleeves?

Sort of a two part question here, but which do you prefer to store your LPs/12" singles in? The paper album sleeve or the clear plasticy sleeve? Which is better, or are they about the same?

Also, where is a good place online to buy them (preferably from a source within Canada)? Are they relatively cheap to buy?

Plastic, hands down. Paper can be abrasive, and cause hairline scratches. It often breaks down over time, depositing fine dust into the grooves.

A local shop sells 100 of them for $25, but since I'm three timezones away, that wouldn't be much help to you.

I've also ordered from http://www.sleevetown.com/ -- very good products and prices, but since they're in the USA, sometimes I have to pay duty and taxes.

I kinda prefer the paper sleeves with the plastic circle in the center. There have been several times when I've stored vinyl records in plastic sleeves only the have the plastic stick when I try to take the record out, and this especially seems to be true when the record has been stored in plastic for a long time, or had other items pressed against it. And I USED to see paper sleeves with plastic lining, but I don't see them anymore. 7/8/2010

I also prefer the paper sleeves with plastic lining (like the ones A&M Canada used to use back in the 70s). Bags Unlimited (www.bagsunlimited.com) in Rochester, NY, still sells those sleeves and lots of other audio-related mailing and storage supplies. Good quality stuff, reasonably priced and super-fast shipping. Their website says they ship all over the world, so I guess that includes Canada!

I remember sometime last year a thread on record sleeves and i actualy learnt something from Disco music .com how important it is to store your vinyl carefully which i though i was, but using paper sleeves only was not been sensible. About 5 years buying paper sleeves with soft poly lined which i like very much and buy them from Sounds wholesale Burton On trent in the UK where i come from seems the best option the quality is excellent and i dont like the plastic sleeves so if you like paper sleeves go for a safer bet the paper poly lined sleeves. i am replacing all my paper sleeves to the paper polylined sleeves and i am doing it in stages to allow for my budget.
