"Te quiero Papi" translates as 'I love you Papi' where Papi could be daddy, but could also be a name.
Now, it's not unusual for black guys to be called 'daddy' or 'big daddy', so maybe it's more harmless than you think.
A daughter's love for her old man or even a wowan's love for her 'daddy' i.e. her man.

I've just beeen listening to "My Forbidden Lover" and I'm not 100% sure of the lyric but it sounds like "Don't tell Mummy about the sausage game we play, I know you like it when I wear the snorkal".

Let's not jump to unfounded conclusions! "Papi" is a very popular term used by Hispanics to denote a suave or handsome guy. Pretty much along the lines of what Quinny said.

This reminds me about the accusations and crazy rumors regarding Machine's "There For the Grace of God" as being anti-black... despite the fact that it was written by August Darnell-a Hatian.

I agree with Bernie. I know many Hispanics and have heard them use the word "Papi" in everyday conversation. Used in this way, it comes across as a form of endearment between friends, like, "Hey, Papi, what's happenin'?" Nothing sinisiter. When used in private in intimate conversations then it can express love or lust, depending who your with.

A woman (or man) saying, "Te quiero, papi" is about as harmful in English as "Give it to me, momma" or "Yeah, baby, do it to me". Take these two phrases literally and I think 99% of us would be either on Freud's couch or behind bars. :)

Marcio & Leatherman: I think you're looking for or seeing something that's not there. I used to play "Warm Summer Night" as a slow down or warm up piece. It's a beautiful arrangement. Never had anyone come up to me and scream about perversion. I actually bought the CD cause my vinyl was **** and you can't have 'snap, crackle, pop' over that soft ending. :D

Well yes, as a true "Hispanic" I can say "papi" is used (not so like in the seventies) for girlfriends with their boyfriends; in return, the guys call them "mami" o "mamita". Of course, all children refer to their parents in the same terms. :-?
