    Colonel Abrams

I just made a new CD with Colonel Abrams "Trapped" on it.
He reminds me a lot of the singing style of Teddy Pendergrass. Any Colonel fans out there? By the way I lovvvvvvve mid 80's house music. 8) 8)

I have the two albums he made for MCA in the mid 80s as well as the little known "About Romance" he released on Scotti Bros. in '92.
The Colonel is still around these days showing up on various house tracks from time to time.

My favorite tracks: "How Soon We Forget" and "Over And Over"

I remember when "I'm Not Gonna Let" came out. People were nuts for this. Is my memory correct that he came on the scene after Teddy's car accident? I seem to remember people thinking he would "fill the void", so to speak.

Am I crazy for thinking that Colonel Abrams covered the old Inner Life "I'm Caught Up (In One Night Love Affairs)" as a house track in the mid-1990's???

I'm not at home, but it was on some compilation (an import I think).

Also, there was ANOTHER song on that same compilation that had a lead vocal that I could swear was Teddy Pendergrass. He wasn't credited...BUT it sure sounded like him.

I'll have to check for that title. I remember writing "sounds like Teddy" in my notes....(Yes, sometimes I take notes...when I hear something I like.)

    Do I need a good enema???? :P  :P  :P

There's a great bootleg of "Trapped" doing the rounds at the moment. Not sure who it's by but I suspect it's the Hoxton Whores.

Has anyone heard the Colonels version of "Mr Postman"? It was on the legandry INGB label (standing for I'm not gay Boris). His version has a very fast bassline with loud stragulated dog noises and horny male groaning. I like it a lot and it reminds me of tight shorts by Rubber Solider on IGB.

'Music Is The Answer' was an excellent record. I also have a 12" of the Colonel's 'Release The Tension' which I first heard in '86. Does anyone know the origins of this US bootleg and if, as I suspect, it's older than Circuit's version from 1984?

OK, I checked my collection and found this "Club USA" on ZYX Records from Germany (1994).

There is a cut by Colonel Abrams: "I'm Caught Up" (8:25) a cover of the Patrick Adams/T. Gonzalez song originally done by Inner Life (Jocely Brown) under the title of "I'm Caught Up (In One Night Love Afairs)".

The cut that sounds soooooo much like Teddy Pendergrass is by Men Of Soul titled "I'll Be There For You" (5:48) (Darryl Payne composer)

I just listened again....and either it's a sample of Teddy P. or damned good impersonator.

    Anyone know this tune??????

If you like Trapped and I'm Not Gonna Let Ya' then check out Private Possesssion featuring Hunter Hayes and This Time from 1986 (Fourth&Broadway?). A damned good record that is right in the Colonel's groove going into early House, and for my money just as good.

    Colonel

Trapped is one of my early house faves too! I've liked it eversince I first heard it back then. Or was it just the video him standing in that some kind of uniform jacket 8)

I like to mix it with Stephanie M's Medicine song and Loleatta's Love sensation...

I must admit that I always found the 12" remix of Trapped a real bitch to mix successfully. The tempo wasn't that steady (especially for a track with electronic drums) and the intro was long enough to fool me. Also the thing seemed to clash (chord wise) with one hell of a lot of tracks.......BUT I STILL LOVED IT!!!!

Quinny I don't manage to find this song anywhere on Kazaa or Soulseek.

    Is this the right spelling?

Or is it just really hard to find?

That is the right spelling. I think the song only came out on the one CD, though - a best of 4th & B'Way which itself is pretty old (late '80s/early '90s) and highly unfashionable, therefore unlikely to be of use to the file-sharing generation. You should look out for the first Hunter and Private Possession 12", 'Are You Wid It', which for my money is a much better tune. It came out first on Megabolt (originally credited to Les Lee - probably by mistake) and was later issued on 4th & B'way. It's excellent.
