Club Countdown Top 16 of 1982

My mixtape for the year 1982. Dance music was back in a big way in '82, but with a much different face. The New Wave has begun in earnest. Sadly, disco is fading. However, we are beginning to hear that "Definitive" '80's sound.

    16. "I Love Rock And Roll" (The Next Wave Rock Remix)
    15. "Hungry Like The Wolf" - Duran Duran
    14. "Look of Love" (1990 Remix) - ABC
    13. "The Message" (Die Fantastischen Vier Remix) - Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five
    12. "Planet Rock" ('98 Remix) - Afrika Bambaataa & The Soul Sonic Force
    11. "Who Can It Be Now?" - Men At Work
    10. "Forget Me Nots" - Patrice Rushen
    09. "Love Come Down" - Evelyn King
    08. "Maneater" - Hall & Oats
    07. "I Ran" - A Flock of Seagulls
    06. "Gloria" - Laura Branigan
    05. "Let It Whip" - Dazz Band
    04. "Tainted Love" (Peter Rauhofer Remix) - Soft Cell
    03. "Hard To Say I'm Sorry" (Aquagen Remix) - Chicago
    02. "Mickey" (Jason Nevins Remix) - Toni Basil
    01. "Don't You Want Me?" - The Human League
BONUS TRACK: "Don't You Want Me?" (Snap Remix) - The Human League

nice compilation you have there ... a lot of imagination and definately something I would enjoy. If I played something similar in my car for one of my friends... they'd be like" wtf is this" ... My friends suck anyways...

    "disco is fading..."

In describing the feel of 1982, I should have said that "TRADITIONAL disco is fading." As we know, disco merely evolved (not sure for the better, however!). I love the fact that today's "filter disco" has brought back many of those "traditional" disco vibes! These mixes DO get a good deal of reaction (mostly positive!). Most people start reminiscing about songs or memories of the past. I get the occasional dance/disco hater, but I just blow them off, and since the vast majority of people love my "Top Hits of..." mixes, I am able to hold my chin up that the "haters" are in the minority, and as such do not generally voice their opinions very loudly. Oh, and here's the BEST effect: The BIG smiles and comments like "you're always playing such FUN music!" :D

Disco Is Fading : Part 2

Disco fading? Just because New Wave/New Romantic was in back in '82, not all on New Wave was dance ready, New Wave was the outfit of Punk and latter bacame the forerunner for Alternative/College Rock, doesn't mean that disco was gone, it was only gone from the publics eye. With Hi-NRG (Eurodisco/Gay Disco), Italian Disco (Eurodisco/Eurodance), Electric Funk (Techno Rap) and Freestyle (Latin Hip-Hop) was very much alive in the underground. If you don't believe me listen to "She Has A Way" by Bobby O' (1982), it was a smash in the underground back in '82.
