Does anyone know if "Jungle Fever" by Chakachas, had a 12" single? I think this song actually goes back to 1972, if so, I'm sure there isn't one. This site doesn't seem to have any information on this record?

No original 12" on this great track. It originally appeared on LP & 45. Though I can't confirm, there may have been reissues on 12" much later.

    Jungle Fever

I do not think it is a very rare record. I think they are from Miami. On WQAM (Top 56 chart) Jungle Fever hit the top 10 around March, 1972. There are many of the 45's in the Miami area. (Many in thrift stores).

I also have Jungle Fever on a compilation album. I think from K-Tel (but maybe Ronco).

the album version is slightly longer than the single.

I can probably send you a WQAM survey with the song, though I prefer some trade.

Part of the song was used in a novelty record called Convention '72 by The Delegates.

I found "Jungle Fever" on the Rhino "Soul Hits of the 70's: Didn't It Blow Your Mind" series...volume 7. And it's the long 4:26 version with the false ending and the reprise.

So provacative a record for AM radio play back in the early 1970s. All that moaning and groaning and orgasmic squeals!!!! (BEFORE Donna moaned and groaned her way to stardom!!!). I recall hearing this back in St. Olaf!!! Those Swedish/Norwegian Lutherans musta been blushing!!!

I know the song is on another Rhino compilation: ROCK INSTRUMENTAL CLASSICS, VOL 3: THE '70's

This also has the longer 4:26 version.

I believe this song is also available in the 'Boogie Nights' movie soundtrack, also some one said a while back here that Chakachas was from Europe (forgot where).

I have this song on the second compilation issued by "Les Bains", which is a parisian club formerly owned by David Guetta.

You can find it in any Virgin if you come to France, and it's surely available on Amazon.

It was big enough to play on some radio stations, especially in Miami. In other markets it was not played.

It was played on Top 40 stations WQAM and a little less on WFUN in the spring of 1972.

I don't remember if it was played on WMYQ.

Is this Rhino Sout Hits of 70's difficult to obtain? Did they add a "false" ending because the record was too short?

I wonder if this was one of those record that made a come back during the late 70's since it was really ahead of its time coming out in 72? I'm surprised polydore didn't just re-release this record on a 12" and extend it.

Stan, thanks for the info... I like info like that ... especially coming from the UK since we are allies :D

And others are talking about the false ending... Could you explain that a little better?

"False Ending" means the record stops like it's over. Then, after a couple seconds of silence, fades back in. I don't have it with me to play--so I can't be more specific--but that's the way I remember it.

Yeh, I think "Our Love Is Insane" by Desmond, Child & Rouge has one of those ending...nice effect...

    I looked up the Billboard chart info on "Jungle Fever";

#8 peak on pop charts; #11 peak on R&B charts in 1972--amzing that this record actually did better on pop charts since it's considered rather provacative for the AM radio of the time.

This was an impossible record to dance to, eh?
It was played in UK clubs more as a slowie/get ready to dance type of track and used to get the guys grinding full on with the gals with the odd exhibitionists actually dancing (a la stoned hippie, peace and love type of thing) to it.

Had it not made the charts there would have been a riot among the club goers, it was that popular. It was still popular way into the mid '70s in Spain (forbidden fruit and all that) and I for one was amazed that it was ever released in such a police state/heavily pro Catholic country. The censors obviously got off to it. .

I was a kid still living in the Bronx when this song was came out. I was too young for clubbing but I remember hearing it on the radio a lot. In fact it was one of the first if not the first record I ever bought.

    Hi Kimeesha,
These songs are different but both are lusty. "Jungle Fever" by Chakachas was written by Bill Ador and "Jungle Fever" from the Spike Lee's movie was written by Stevie Wonder of course. In reality "Jungle Fever" by Chakachas is an erotic song without lyrics but I can hear a woman saying something like no...no...no :D :-? .
