Here's a few (possibly perverse) titles to get your head around.
Bite Your Granny - Morning, Noon & Night. Can any American please tell me what that means?
Now Do U Want to Dance? - Graham Central Station. As a DJ I was always thinking this. Do ya or don't ya, huh?
The Same Thing (Makes You Laugh, Makes You Cry) - Sly & The Family Stone. Especially true of certain legal and illegal stimulants.
(I Got) So Much Trouble In My Mind - Sir Joe Quatermain & Free Soul. At the time I was full of (slightly older than teenage) angst.
Rotation - Herb Alpert. Little did I know that this referred perfectly to a DJ's job tenure. It seemed that no matter how good or how badly I was working, I had to seek a new venue about once a year. It was pretty insecure being a jock.

It's not what you got (it's how you use it) Carrie Lucas
My 1st my last my everything Barry White (he's recovering well apparently from illness)
Lick before u stick it (Denise Lasalle)
What people do for money (Devine sounds)
What a diff'rence a day makes (Esther Philips)
Reasons to be cheerful, part 3 (Ian Dury)
Ain't gonna bump no more (with no big fat woman) (Joe Tex)
If you could read my mind - Viola Wills
If you buy this record your life, will be better.

Quinny, I continue to enjoy seeing your music lists. Although I'm from America, Joe Quarterman/Free Soul did not make the pop charts here... But was played here in San Diego. I still have my 7" single... in vg- condition. (sussex)

Did that song make the british charts?

For uplifting and positive messages in disco look no further than Glenn Jones classic "I Am Somebody" (1982).

the lyrics in that just make you believe you can conquer the world!
    There was life after disco!!

efunk: Joe Quartermain received a lot of disco action in the UK, as it was to our general liking at the time. I don't think it got anywhere near the charts, but I've never been a close follower of such things. Luckily I have it (several times) on various CD compilations. If you'd told me almost 30 years ago that it would be a well known track 30 years on, I would have laughed. Always had it in my own mind as an obscure for ever type of track, if you get my drift. Contrary to what some others think, its amazing to think that soooooo much material is available now, much of which was totally lost when released.
I too have the US 7" but mine is pretty knackered, after being played so many times on lousy record decks.

Several?.... I can't even believe anybody would remember this song. I must have been real maticulous when I handled that record, because I still have it in it's original 7" sleave. I put it on mini-disc a couple of years back. flmao it sounds ok 8) with a little snap, crackle & pop...
So what UK release did it appear in?

Hahaha, It was the same way for me for more than 12 years! My longest gig was 14 months, and while I worked my contacts and followed tips of new club openings you go through your savings keeping up with the music.... but the 'thrills' more than made up for the headaches I must say.

Anyways back on topic, Songs like "La La La peace song" by O.C. Smith /Al Wilson and "Peace and Love" Ron Buttler & The Ramblers both have a nice uplifting message for humanity.

efunk: I've got it on three CDs, but the best one to have is 'Got To Get Your Own - Some Rare Grooves' which I obtained from the U.S.A. not so long ago. Check out GEMM.
On this there's the LP version of Reuben Wilson - Got To Get Your Own (the reason I bought this CD, atrack that has such brilliant memories), 4 tracks from Cymande, 1 from Eddie Bo, 2 from Ripple, Jackie Beavers - Mr. Bump Man part 2 (an absolute blinding track in its day) plus lotsa fairly obscure funk tracks.

efunk_adelic, you're about to become a great friend of mine.

Yes, Candi is the queen. Her greatest lyrics are definitely in "Victim".

If one day, The man who left Candi passes my way, pray for him :)

The Philadelphia International stuff was full of "inspirational messages" intended to uplift African Americans....

    WAKE UP EVERYBODY
    MESSAGE IN OUR MUSIC
    LOVE IS THE MESSAGE
LIFE IS A SONG WORTH SINGING
    ONLY THE STRONG SURVIVE
    FOR THE LOVE OF MONEY
    BACK STABBERS
    I LOVE MUSIC
    LOVE TRAIN

Couldn't we use a little of that kind of "uplift" today.

"Back that ass up bitch and s*ck my d*ck" passes for poetry these days!!!!!

"Mimi's Song" by Donna Summer. This is not a disco song by any means but it sends chills down my spine any time I hear the words and the music (via her "Live and More" album).

"Touch Me In The Morning" by Marlena Shaw. Another great example of how the words can complement the music.

"Off The Wall" by Jacko Wacko . Who would've guessed 15-20+ years by now he would live up to that title, bar none.
