    My eclectic (various) taste

OK, let me toss out here my start of summer music. I kinda all over the map but it gets me in that good summer mood:

Sergio Mendes and Brasil 66 (esp. "Mas Que Nada" and "The Look Of Love")

Sinatra Reprise (esp. "Luck Be A Lady" and "Fly Me To The Moon")

Diner Sountrack (mainly, Beyond The Sea)

Marvin Gaye - After The Dance

Labelle - What Can i Do For You

Jimmy Ross - First True Love Affair

    Hi Tension - Hi Tension

    Cher - Take Me Home

    MFSB - Summertime

    Teddy Pendergrass - Do Me

    Paul,

We'll surely be "Dancing In Heaven"... or maybe, Hell. I have all that stuff...except for Jimmy Ross and Hi-Tension.

Love that Sergio Mendes sound. Talk about "cool".

    Ha Ha Paul,

I made a CD recently with Jimmy Ross :P 12
" mix. you need to play it at least 20 times... cause I've been wearin' it out for the last month.
Good taste in Marvin Gaye "after the dance"

and last but not least. Sergio Mendes/Brazil '66
My mother used to play all their LP's when I was young... so I like so many songs by them. :D

I made a CD recently with:

    Cherelle - Fragile
    One Way - Smile
    One Way - Pop It
    One Way - Mr. Groove
Rose Royce - I Wanna Make It With You
    General Caine - Girls
Grace Jones - Pull Up To The Bumper (again,,,, geee's I'm gonna get sick of this song, not!!! 8) )

and because I haven't played it in 2 months.. add:
    EWF - Mighty, Mighty

    others
Unlimited Touch - I Hear Music In The Streets
SOS Band - Do It Now

oh well, I can't remember the rest of the CD

You went a whole two months without Mighty Mighty
That 12" mix of "First True Love Affair" has a great intro and break. I can't get enough of that song either. Jimmy has a earthy gritty sound that sounds like "Stax" gone disco. I like it.

I've gotta find this "First True Love Affair" and this "High Tension" song. I think I have something by High Tension...but I think it's called "British Hustle"??? Anyone remember that?

Are they on any CD compilations?

I was able to grab the 5 min original 12" version off of Napster (I had the 12" single at one time)

The "First true love affair" version I remember most is the one that starts with just the keyboard riff, 2 times and then enter the drums, then the guitar, then another keyboard, then ANOTHER keyboard and some female chanting... and then at last Mr. Ross, I presume.
A great cliché of DJing in my city was to put this song, and then in the break just before the chorus when there's a lone drum beat, to scratch back and forth that drum... Maybe the first scratch for my ears, folks! People loved it and all local DJs did it.
    Great track, BTW. 8)
It don't mean a thing (if ain't got that swing)

Perhaps, but the 5 min version is the one I am familar with.
It went to #1 on the boston club charts.
I'm surprised it didn't get any crossover airplay like Machine did.

    And Jim,
Boston is exactly where I was and when I was boogying to "First True Love Affair." It was kicking ass at the discos and various parties I hung out at. Ahhh...what sweet memories. The 5 min version is nice but the 12" mix as with many other things was that much better. :D

    Hi Paul :D

I'm not familiar with the groups HI Tension, Diner 'soundtrack' and Jimmy Ross but I trust your judgment that these songs are pleasurable. I Love "Take Me Home and "The Look of Love". Lately I've been playing "Hot Fun In The Summertime" by Sly Stone hoping that it can somehow trigger Mother Nature to send us New Yorkers some 80 degree temperatures. "Spring Rain", "La Vie En Rose","Quiet Village", "Let's Fly Away" and "The Four Seasons" also reminds me of summer.

    *DELIGHTFUL*

    Hi Delight :P
Hi Tension is a British act that had a hot club song by the same name around 1978. I can still remember doing the rock to it at KIX, one of Boston's hot discos.
Diner was a 1982 movie that I didn't see but had a couple of oldies songs that appealed to me. I like that cool Bobby Darin sound and "Beyond The Sea" was a must have for me.
Jimmy Ross' "First True Love Affair" was surprisingly missed by you and Marky. I think it falls in that electrofunk thread that was around several weeks ago. If there is a club in NYC that you got to that plays old school disco, ask the DJ to play that one. I think you and the crowd will "get off."
I remember getting cabin fever living in part of the world. I'd love to brag about how great the weather has been here in Lo Cal but it's been overcast for most of the 3 day weekend. Of course now that it's back to work there predicting 80s and 90s by mid week!

Paul, it always does this **** around Memorial Day Weekend... (overcast) :x

it seems that Marky & Hustlebaby are interested in the song... I think since the last threat I played it 10 more times paul... lol. I'm going thru my "First True" wear it out session right now.... I'm gonna make a new CD with some stuff I haven't played in a while... the new CD won't have any James Brown or "Mighty, Mighty" EWF or B.T. Express on it... bite my tongue.
I think I'm in the mood for some 80's stuff. (inspired by the recent mid 80's thread). Let's see what happens. I'll post it tomorrow :P Right now it's 12:20 in the morning...
