Saturday Night by Thelma Houston is definitely my favorite by her! But Remicks posted a Van McCoy production she did which was really nice and may become my new fave.

Loleatta has so many great tunes, but this one was a flip side for her Hit & Run 12inch, overshadowed by the A Side. But I like it better!

The title track from Let's Get It Together is a classic, but I think this one from the same record is much nicer!

This was the last song on C'est Chic, the 'Le Freak' LP, but I like it the best!

Celi Bee's Superman overshadowed this track which was on the same LP and released on the flip side to that song's 12inch. I think this one is so much better. I just got the LP on CD, and the recording studios were Puerto Rico and NYC using what looks like all hispanic musicians.

Sorry, One Love reminded me of this tune that Miami Sound Machine recorded before they broke big in the 80s. Very obscure, but very classy!

Even though Red Phoenix's "Theme of Red Phoenix (All Japan Women's Pro Wrestling Super Fighter Theme)" is the most known one of the Phoenix Woman Wrestler disco theme tracks, I think The Theme of Lucy Kayama is the best with a great girl chorus bit:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OPfxW...eature=related

Sounds just as good as the Lupin 3 theme from 1978, right?

On the Ritchie Family's great African Queens LP (1977), the hit singles were their exotic, dreamy African Queens medley and the snazzy (largely) instrumental Quiet Village. However, one of the tracks NOT to be overlooked was the blistering Summer Dance:

    African Queens -- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CHUcWQz_BcY
    Quiet Village -- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O7YGO_aPubk
Summer Dance -- not available (yet) on youtube, but check it out audio-wise on your vinyl LP.

Thumbs up Re: Tracks that are just as good if nor better than the artists Hit or Hits

Slave had quite a good run in the late 70's early 80's, their LP's stocked full of great album cuts like these....

Change probably best remembered for that 1st LP featuring Luther Vandross or the hit Paradise also had many LP sleepers that were great! Like...

...and speaking of Petrus & Malavasi.....

This BB&Q Band cut never got the attention I think it should have...

another great one by BB&Q Band.... This one w/ Curtis Hairston on lead vocals.

    OMG!....forgot this one! Smoker!!!!

Ace thread Dayva! I always thought that this track was better than any of her hits (& it featured Patrick Cowley on synths):

I know what you mean, there's something about that 'Superman' song that's irritatingly banal isn't there? When Herbie Mann did his similar version in '78 there were MUCH better disco tracks on his 'Supermann' LP (such as the terrific 'Stomp Your Feet To the Beat') but I can't find any on youtube.

There are certain disco songs that actually make me feel a little nauseous ..something in their arrangement , sound quality???
Celi's SUPERMAN is one of them....so is LIKE AN EAGLE by Dennis Parker.

Great cut my Stacy, I think that's from one of the Narada M. Walden produced LP's, so what'd you expect!

You're absolutely right Sandy! along with Stomp your Feet, there's Etagui, Django, & Jisco Dazz - I think one of Patrick Adams' best outside productions, and if you enjoy those cuts, check out the LP he produced for the flutist Art Webb, very similar to the Herbie Mann LP!

I always preferred this track to any of their hits (never has a fairlight synth been used to greater effect!):

    I can't explain why

but when this song first came out
    in 1979

it was all but ignored in the clubs

(?? too brief ??....& no one .....thought "remix!!!" ????)

when some kind person has disabled embedding on their youtube post
    as done here

JUST DOUBLE CLICK ON THE large, center-of -screen, PLAY ARROW
and it will take you there

I think she was trying to sound sexy and sultry when singing about Superman, but she sounded more like she was bored. The arrangement is pretty stiff. I just like the loud phase-distorted strings part in the middle.

Here's another nice track from the same Celi Bee LP. This song is the last cut on the B side, right after One Love. The guy who posted this re-edited it and synced it up with some weird movie.

Band of Gold was a proto-disco anthem for this lady. She didn't seem to do much during the disco era, but I did discover this gem recently.

Peaches & Herb had that great series of hits when they hooked up with Freddie Perren in '78, including Shake Your Groove Thing. But I liked their Van McCoy work from the year before. One of my favorite cuts from that collaboration

When Teddy P left the Blue Notes, many probably thought that was the end of the great music from this group. Well, I bought their post-Teddy stuff, and it's even better! Naturally classics like The Love I Lost, Wake Up Everybody and Bad Luck stand ahead of the pack, but the albums as a whole were not as interesting with Teddy P than after he left and they left for ABC Records. This was the title track for their first LP post-Teddy.

This one still perplexes me! This track is as strong as the title track Get Up & Boogie, the LP from which it came. And it's stronger than No No Joe, also on the same LP, but which got a 12 inch remix release. So why oh why didn't Silver Convention's producer or company put this out as a single?! They really dropped the ball on this one!
