Great track Dayna and when you think about it, Donna has always adapted well to new Dance sounds.

I agree. This is one of her best, IMO. She sings the hell out of it. When I first heard it, I got all verklempt. The Morales mix is the best.
Oh, to have even heard the rest of the David Morales LP, being built around it, as part of Polydor's big re-launch of Casablanca. What I'd heard, was that 3 more songs, and much of a 4th, were ready to go, when Donna opted-out, and the whole Casablanca re-launch thing, went into the crapper.
"Burn me once, shame on you. Burn me twice, shame on me."
As far as Polygram was concerned, after 17 years, "Melody Of Love" was the last nail in The Casbah's coffin.

Sounds like the song has had lots of drama--at one point Donna was meant to do more than just the one song with Clivillés + Cole (aka C+C Music Factory) but Cole got sick which is why C+C didn't produce it and in the end it was handed down to Welcome to produce (I do think the original production, while decent, isn't as good as it could be--I also prefer the Morales). Terrific song though.
