    The lost Blackbyrds Recordings !!

    Gooday Fella's
Sorry about the double edged title , it was done so I can get your attention .
We all remember the Blackbyrds , they recorded 6 or 7 Lp's on Fantasy Records of which one is a Soundtrack to a movie and one other was a greatest hits type offering .
I may be wrong but I beleive their final Album is called "Better days" 1980 and they only sounded like a shadow of their former creative selfs . This may have something to do with the change of label and George Duke's production help . We will never know until somebody out there manages to interview one of the members or locates some previous interview .
Anyway , my question is did any of the band members go on to record any Albums for themselves or together ?
Any info would be appreciated .
    cheers

Kevin Toney made an LP (self titled) for Fantasy in 1982, whilst Keith Kilgo released the seldom seen 'Keith Kilgo' for Baltimore/Washington International later that same year. Incidentally, the first Blackbyrd to go solo was Blair Barney Perryall, who gave us 'Night Life' (LP & 12") in 1978.

Good point, NickNack...this is the '82 LP on Fantasy. What are the others like...smooth jazz?

    Hi Forrrce,

Yes, they are all in the smooth jazz vein. Kevin Toney's "Kings" was played so long and so often on the smooth jazz stations here that the CD had to be re-released. Everybody wanted that cut and it was nowhere to be found.

I'm very into the smooth jazz sound so these are fine by me but I think others who are more 'serious' about their jazz will find them repetitive.

Thanks for the info, NickNack - I had no idea any band members were still recording regularly. The Blackbyrds played here sometime in the last year or two - I missed both (?) gigs but heard very mixed reviews about them. I was also told that they were in the studio during their stay - I have no idea what became of this.
