Ashford & Simpson WB catalog May 4, 2010

Wounded Bird will be reissuing the entire (!) Ashford & Simpson catalog of albums they recorded for Warner Bros on May 4. Several albums were already released on cd in 1996, but "Come As You Are" and "I Wanna Be Selfish" have never been available on cd, only digital download.

"Gimme Something Real" and "Performance" had already been independently released by A&S through cdbaby.com.

Several albums are set to include bonus tracks. Oh and if you were to pick only one album, it would definitely be the amazing "Performance" live cd, which in my opinion is one of the best live albums ever alongside Rufus & Chaka's "Stompin' at the Savoy".

    Here's the full list:
    Gimme Something Real
    I Wanna Be Selfish
Come As You Are + extra tracks
    Send It
So So Satisfied + extra tracks
Is It Still Good To Ya + extra tracks
    Stay Free
A Musical Affair + extra tracks
    Performance

The Gem here is I Wanna Be Selfish. MAINLINE was the big hit played at all clubs, in LA, during the beginning days of Disco. The song just builds and builds and when the instrumental break comes, it's like dancing in the clouds. A Gospel type Disco song--- I think the album version is a bit longer than the 45. I have been waiting for this song, to come out, on CD, for a long time.
Always looking for remastered 12\" versions on CD

I got tired of waiting so I went to a used music store, bought all the Ashford and Simpson albums I didn't already own and made my own compilation CD. The songs I put on it are: "Nobody Knows"/"Send It"/"Dance Forever"/"Live Medley"/"Crazy"/"High Rise"/"Bourgie Bourgie"/"Solid"/"Outta the World"/"Don't Cost You Nothin'"/"Follow Your Heart"/"Street Opera"/"Been Found"/"Why Shouldn't It Be Me?". It's great their Warner Brothers albums are being reissued and hopefully their Capitol albums will be next. 4/17/2010

    Hey Corey:

All of the songs from Ashford and Simpson's Capital albums were put on cd. You have to buy about 4 compilations to get them but it's on cd. Solid from 1984, Real Love from 1986 and Love or Physical from 1989 are available as exact albums on cd.

    Corey,

Both "Street Opera" and "High Rise" were released on cd in Japan last year. They are already out of print, but you can still get them on Ebay for about $25 each. If you want them, I suggest you pick them up now because they are likely to become more expensive in the future.

my budget doesn't allow me to pay $25 for import CD versions of albums that are available for $2.00 in my local bargain bins. Thank goodness for USB recording software. I have not bought one single solitary recently released recording since I mastered USB software, and judging from the rather empty scene in several local music stores, not many other people are buying new music either. R.I.P. Tower Records, Virgin Megastore, the Wherehouse. 4/21/2010
