Thank you Johan - you just made me a very happy man !! I was listening to his NIGHT DUBBIN' collection this afternoon.
Being the Philadelphia International fanatic that I am - I will jump on this one, too.
Next May 7th 2010, BBE Records will release the new compil from Dimitri From Paris!
For the first time ever Gamble and Huff have given a label access to the multi track tapes of some Philly International platinum selling classics such as The Love I Lost, Bad Luck featuring the vocals of the late great Teddy Pendergrass, the first black male to release 5consecutive platinum albums in the United States.
Dimitri's selection on CD1 traces the evolution of the 70’s disco groove from the first ever disco hit record, to the rejuvenation of the Jackson 5’scareer. Interspersed with obscurities such as Charles Mann to the magnificent Teddy Pendergrass, Philly International’s answer to Marvin Gaye. CD2 of the compilation pays homage to the original creators and innovators of the! remix and extended edits with reworkings exclusively by Dimitri from Paris.
This tribute to the creators of disco is presented on a limited edition 10,000 copies double cd. Multiple deluxe vinyl exclusively featuring Dimitris remixes and edits.
Thank you Johan - you just made me a very happy man !! I was listening to his NIGHT DUBBIN' collection this afternoon.
Being the Philadelphia International fanatic that I am - I will jump on this one, too.

Although I have loads of Philly compilations and cds already, I'm definitely looking forward to this. And BBE are very good at putting out high quality releases, such as the maginicent John Morales set.
By the way there is a 35-minute (!) sample of the tracks on this set on the BBE website www.bbemusic.com with commentary by Dimitri.

Yes I see the hype and I am glad to buy the product.
This is my music and I am totally looking forward to it.
I just don't like being taken for a ride while it's going on.
The CD II is the one with the remixes. But I heard yesterday from Moulton that there will be four 12"s that will have remixes NOT on the CD---vinyl release only.
Three 12" by Dimitri and 1 with New mixes by Moulton, Francois K. & John Morales.
So I guess I'm gonna have to go deeper in my pocket than I originally thought.
(12" will be from the UK so that's shipping too)
GEEZ!!!
AND, speaking of the HYPE, what does Gamble & Huff have to do with
John Davis ('Night & Day'),
Philly Devotions ('Hurt So Bad') and
Eddie Kendricks ('He's A Friend')???
They were not on their label!!!
Well I finally found a tracklist:
CD1:
1. Teddy Pendergrass - You Can't Hide From Yourself
2. Eddie Kendricks - He's A Friend
3. Philly Devotions - Hurt So Bad
4. Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes - Bad Luck pt. 1 & 2
5. The Jacksons - Living Together
6. Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes - Tell The World How I Feel About 'Cha Baby
7. John Davis & The Monster Orchestra - Night and Day
8. Carl Bean - I Was Born This Way
9. The Trammps - The Night The Lights Went Out
10. Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes - The Love I Lost
11. Charles Mann - Do It Again
12. Teddy Pendergrass - The More I Get, The More I Want
13. T.J.M. - I Don’t Need No Music
CD2:
1. Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes - The Love I Lost (Dimitri from Paris Super Disco Blend)
2. Philly Devotions - Hurt So Bad (Dimitri from Paris Super Disco Blend)
3. The Jacksons - Living Together (a Dimitri from Paris Disco Re-Edit)
4. Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes - Bad Luck (a Dimitri from Paris Disco Re-Edit)
5. Teddy Pendergrass - The More I Get, The More I Want (Dimitri from Paris Super Disco Blend)
6. Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes - Tell The World How I Feel About 'Cha Baby (a DfP Disco Re-Edit)
7. Teddy Pendergrass - You Can’t Hide From Yourself (Dimitri from Paris Super Disco Blend)
8. Eddie Kendricks - He's A Friend (Dimitri from Paris Super Disco Blend)
9. The Trammps - The Night The Lights Went Out (a Dimitri from Paris Disco Re-Edit)
Although I can understand why, I still feel the selection is a bit too Teddy-heavy, would have liked some more variety on the second cd. And some tracks on CD 1 are just too wel known, turning up on compilations everywhere. I hope the 12"-es will offer some nice surprises.
Jay-
Like they say in the streets "You Can't Knock The Hustle". So if BBE thinks of ways to bring interest (and hopefully sales) in various ways, in various formats.....I dont think that is a bad thing. If you only buy what interests you there is no problem. And lets be honest here....not trying to blow ya up....but you know some of the players on this set, just like I do. Knowing that....just how much are you really going to have to pay to get those extra remixes for this set?
And as somebody who contributed often to the various Philly threads your last question kinda makes no sense. THE PHILLY SOUND has to do with Eddie Kendricks (produced by Norman Harris with MFSB playing), John Davis (prime Philly musician, contracting MFSB for his "orchestra", and Philly Devotions...I mean...I dont have to explain this....YOU'RE JAY NEGRON~!! YOU KNOW THIS STUFF ALREADY~!! YOU TEACH US THIS STUFF~!! You have a bad "music moment" or something? The Gamble & Huff access to the multi-tracks (that they control) is a different issue- I think you're just misinterpreting what was written. However, historically we can call BullSh*t on that as if this is the "first time"- then I guess all those KWS 90's remixes didnt exist? Chris King beat Dmitri to the multi-tracks by 14 years.
I totally agree with whitesockedfunk. The project is too Teddy-heavy, so much so that this project appears to have been a not very well thought out "Tribute to Teddy"- that got changed in mid-stream.
But then making a compilation is not easy. It looks easy, but something like this demonstrates that you have to think of balance, presentation and sequencing. This project might have been stronger and more focused as two separate compilations. Volume 1- Various Artists, Volume 2- Tribute to Teddy. All under the umbrella of "Get Down With The Philly Sound".
But it's all so terribly easy to second guess from the outside looking in. I think overall it is a very well designed attractive package. The proof will untimately be in the quality of the mixes and edits and how well we all respond to them. I am looking forward to it.

Yea, I was just addressing Gamble & Huff's involvement with Eddie Kendricks, John Davis, Carl Bean, etc.
I am SO LOOKING FORWARD to this.
And you know I'm gonna HAVE to have every possible version/formation/12"/CD that will be put out!!
Not to mention Tom Moulton's 2010 Philly ReGrooved Set to be coming out at the end of May also!!!
Good Year for Philly Classics!!!!
Geez, this is turning into a MAJOR investment!!
If I wanna get the vinyl PLUS the CD it's gonna cost me over $110.
$29 for a double 12". (Amazon Prices)
Is that just a lil HIGH???????
wow, I didn't now Tom Moulton was also releasing a Philly album! I'm now looking more forward to that one because his Philadelphia Classics set from back in the day is one of my all-time favorite albums. Does anyone know what label will be releasing Tom's album? And any track list? :-)
Maybe Jay can give info on the label but here's what you can expect from Mr.Moulton, a must have that's for sure!
Moulton's package: "Tom Moulton's 2010 Philly Re-Grooved" will be distributed thru Philly Groove Records aka Nickelback Productions, headed by Reid Whitlaw.
I called the company, left messages, sent emails, NO RESPONSE.
(I know they have a deal for digital sales thru Traxsource--don't know about vinyl yet)
Yes THAT Reid Whitlaw from 'Helplessly' fame.
I can't get a tracklist, or a release date, but Tom did say sometime in May.
Featuring artists on the Philly Groove label '71-'75.
I'm w a i t i n g patiently!!!
(I want it NOW)
This info just in from Ian Dewhirst:
Oh yes! Moulton remixes the Philly Groove catalogue.
Just got delivery of this and two immediate standout tracks for a soulboy like me are:-
"Don't Put Me Down" - Finishing Touch
A 9 minute slab of forgotten soul with a lead vocal to die for.....
and
"Whatcha Gonna Do" - Heaven & Hell
Absolutely hypnotic beautiful track that was originally on the long forgotten soundtrack of the film "Nocturna" from 1979. Just a wonderful wonderful track which sounds perfect today......
Naturally the whole album's a work of art and so great to finally hear First Choice's "Armed & Extremely Dangerous" finally get the 12" mix it always deserved. Some lovely cuts all round.
It's Harmless's 100th release and it'll be out in mid June - here's the full track-listing:-
“PHILLY RE-GROOVED - The Tom Moulton 2010 Remixes"
1. “We’re On The Right Track” by Ultra High Frequency (featuring Ben Aiken) – 6:36
2. “Armed And Extremely Dangerous” by First Choice - 6:34

Wow, great video, very interesting!
By the way, you can listen to clips from the BBE release on amazon.co.uk now.

They also have an mp3 only download ep listed with mixes that aren't on the double cd (but will be on the 12"(es) I presume).

I received my 2cd set the other day, it sounds great, the booklet is very nice and informative and most of the remixes/re-edits are well done, my favourites are "You Can't Hide From Yourself" and "Living Together". However... CD1 seems a bit of a waste as it contains several tracks most fans of the Philly sound will already have- multiple times even. Still, for "beginners" this is a very good set, although for me the Philadelphia Classics album, featuring mixes by Tom Moulton from back in the day still is the Philly compilation to beat.
FYI, the very interesting documentary about the Philly sound that has been discussed in this thread can now be downloaded for free from iTunes now:

By the way, still haven't found a complete listing of the mixes on the various Get Down With the Philly Sound 12"-es. Does anybody have them?
I didn't realize there was already a thread for this, I had posted my info in the Philly Blueprint for disco thread.
You guys should save your money on buying the 12 inches. There's a 3 disc (yes you heard me) version created for Japan. Just check out the listing on discogs. Instrumental versions of the mixes. It's worth every dollar. Much cheaper than buying the 2 CD set, then buying the 12 inches to cover the versions not on the CD.

I'm happy that there are some rare ones, but I agree that it has originals that people already have, but I'm thinking it was done for comparison sake, or it may have been a condition for the release of the remixes.
I hope he does another set. There are so many philly tracks he could be doing that haven't been done yet, like the rare ones on single only from groups like Kaleidoscope.

There is a 4th coming out in July with mixes by Tom Moulton, Francois K, & John Morales.
According to the article in the link below, those extra tracks will just be re-edits, not remixes.
It's interesting to see that the original CD listing was supposed to include a track by Brown Sugar. I guess Vince Montana didn't give his blessing for its inclusion on the compilation.
