It sounds nothing like the first album at all.
Hey,I thought I just bought the best of Ultimate:Love Is The Ultimate from Amazon but when it arrived it was the first album, which I already owned on vinyl.Grr.Which is nice to have on cd, but I was surprised to hear there even was a second album. There are no posts for these tracks on youtube, one is called "Secret Agent Man"..does anyone know anything about Ultimate's 2nd release and is it worth buying? Is it disco enough:icon_question::icon_razz:

Alas, like many 2nd (& last!) (e.g. Slick's 2nd LP & Macho's 2nd LP) disco LPs, it was a big let-down.

Avoid it! What were they thinking when the made the follow-up LP, it's such a departure from their original sound, it's more Rock than Disco if memory serves me.
Wow overwhelming advice to avoid...rock?Shudder....

That period of time (late '79 and into 1980) was so disturbing and upsetting for us disco fans. Gary's Gang's next album adopted rock elements ("Little Rock Dancer from Dallas", "Rock Around The Clock")...Poussez's album was lacklustre with eight cuts instead of four strong lengthy cuts...and as much as I love Gino Soccio's S-Beat album, it was quite a different step beyond his first album. Even Cerrone's next hit during that time was "Rock Me"...very similar to Donna's "Hot Stuff"...and don't even get me started on her album "The Wanderer" which pretty well had me in tears because it so obviously strayed from everything that she had done in the '70s.

Grab it if you like the Salerni/Weeden/Strauman sound (I certainly do :icon_cool: )
Look out for the "Best Of Ultimate - Love Is The Ultimate" cd of Hot Productions, it features both albums. The first album even in good quality.
But as discokicks said, one can compare it to the difference between the first and the second album by Poussez!.
Actually, having listened to the 2nd Ultimate LP I still find the songs very weak, although the vocals are good, but 2 of the tracks aren't bad I s'pose: 'Now & Forever' reminds me of a cross between Fern Kinney's 'Together We Are Beautiful' & Yvonne Elliman's 'Love Pains' without being as good as either!& the afore-mentioned 'Secret Agent Man' I quite like - it's a cover version of an old Mel Torme song that was a TV theme song I seem to remember hearing. But I still find the rest of the LP tres disappointing despite the personnel involved.:icon_confused:
