Some Nice Finds From The Year 1979!

I didn't know that Norma Jean did this great Chic-esque track. This was not put on an LP, but was released on 12 inch and 7 inch singles. I hadn't heard this song until recently.

From Westend records comes this really cool performance by Taana Gardner of 'Work That Body'. I can't tell if this was meant to be a promo film or a performance on a dance show. It looks like everyone is having a blast. I did know of the song, I just didn't know about this youtube vid.

Here's my most surprising find. I'm not a fan of synthesizer-heavy euro disco. It just never appealed to me. I don't mind it if there's a mixture of soul with synths, and this track definitely has it! It sounds like it would mix great with Boogie Woogie Dancin Shoes.

Hey Disco Funk, "High Society" isn't a Chic-esque track, it is 100% pure Chic :-), written and produced by Bernard Edwards and Nile Rodgers and one of their best in my opinion. It was supposedly recorded for the second Norma Jean album, but was only released as a single.

However, the more than excellent Norma Jean Wright cd reissue included the full length version, alongside the also excellent b-side "Hold Me Lonely Boy". This CD is one of my most prized possessions and I paid big money for it ;-) .

So many songs, so many memories. I loved the guy next to Taana in the Work That Body video. The jacket and scarf was much the look many of us had. I can almost smell the Grey Flannel :icon_biggrin:

By the way, I seem to remember a lot of songs that year with titles similar to Work That Body.

I'm still waiting for someone to post Norma Jean Wrights supercool track "Sorcerer" on You Tube. I like it much better than "High Society".

When I went to 'Remember the Party' a couple of years ago the dancefloor was incredibly packed when this fab track came on - it really comes into its own in a disco environment; 'peak time' excitement personified! Tres magnifique!:icon_razz:

Trocadero DJ Bobby Viteritti did this remix for Disconet that made "Magnifique" more famous in the USA & a Troc classic.... see the notes at the bottom of the page.

Disconet Volume 4 Program 6 - Magnifique: "Magnifique" b/w Gomez Presley: "The Letter": Vinyl Recordings @ DiscoMusic.com

a poster [David d.] wrote this:
"Beyond all of that, Magnifique was an example of a Disconet remix that completely re-worked the song. The original (on Siamese and Ariola as I recall) was less filtered and seemed disjointed. The remix reworks the intro, gives a distinct break in the middle, and almost completely deletes the vocals. All with reel-to-reels of the original spliced together as this was WAY before digital."
    "Lost inside adorable illusion...."

Talking of Tanya Gardner up there - didn't she have a hit with "Heartbeat" - was it 1981 ? That was a fantastic record, I have the 12" somewhere...
