Wild guess - probably wrong: Never gonna let you go by Sergio Mendes. It is a duet, singer sounds like Michael McDonald. This is from the early 80's. Check out the sound sample on CDNow (check the "Classics" album).
Okay, since everyone did so well with the Unyque song, I'm hoping you'll be able to help me with this song. It's on a wonderful Bobby Viteritti at Trocadero Transfer early morning set from 1982 that I recently acquired.
A song with male vocal, one of those peppy, pop/jazz dance songs in the mode of something from Toto or Jay Graydon. The chorus goes,
"Never gonna let you go this time
Babe I'm gonna make you feel so fine
You do it to me
And that's why
I'm so in love with you.
All the things you do to me
Make it so easy to see
Why I am never gonna let you go."
I think it might be David Roberts (per my search at allmusic.com). The year (1982) and the session players seem to match the sound of this song. Anybody able to confirm? Is there a twelve of the song?
Thanks!

Thanks for the guess Maarten, but unfortunately that isn't the song (way too slow)! I have this worst fear that the record is David Roberts and I overlooked the release oh so many years ago. Hope I'm wrong and that the song is by someone else.
Hey Nicky, you're my expert on Morning Music - any ideas??? By the way, the David Roberts album is listed as being on Elektra.

Sorry Keefe. When I first saw your post I thought the song was Never Gonna Let You Go by Band of Gold. But, after playing the 12", I'm wrong again. Too bad I like these games since I'm crap at playing them.

My source (who I connected with thanks to Jeff H. and Marky) should have sent you a list of the Bobby V. at Troc CD sets by now. Let me know if you haven't received!
Hi Keefe,
Guess what I finally put my hands on, hiding in my collection? Yes, sir, "NEVER GONNA LET YOU GO" by Salazar. It is THE ONE you've been looking for, trust me. Here's the specifics:
Released: 1980
Label: First American
Serial # FA-1205
B-Side: "LIGHTNIN' STRIKES" (the old Lou Christie song)
The only other song I have on this label is Ann-Margaret doing "Everybody Needs Somebody Sometimes". This was another Sabu project for her.
I found these because I started a project this week that I probably won't complete until I'm about 90. I'm reorganizing my 12" collection, switching from the 'file-by-label' system to good old 'A to Z'. Hopefully I'll find some more good stuff. Of course, my room is a disaster area again. Records every fucking where I look and I've only gotten to the 'F' labels, looking for artists beginning with 'A'. Geez...

I did the same thing about 2 years ago. Trust me, it's the best thing you can do with your time...lol Having all your records in alphabetical order, rather than by label, is so much better. I even made a list on file with artist, name, label & producer! Anyway, once you do it that way, you'll be wondering why you didn't do it like that a loooong time ago.On 2002-08-01 20:22, NickNack wrote:

Hey Nicky, is this the same Salazar that did "1-2-3"? I love that track, and I have their album somewhere - I have to see if this track is on it. For some reason I seem to think that Salazar came from Spain? On 2002-08-01 20:22, NickNack wrote:

PS My record collection is sorted by artist and/or producer. I have promised myself that I will bring order to this chaos because it is becoming "de-manageable" (hi Marky!).
I do have a database though, but it still very incomplete with regards to vinyl.

I hear ya! When I was working the clubs five nights a week, 12"'s by label was fine. It was just so easy then because in my head, the labels had a 'sound'. You know what I mean, Prelude vs. TK vs. Motown. I knew where everything was because I knew what label the artists were on. Now, no way! I can't find anything when I want it because artists like, say, Grace Jones, had hits on five different labels. The smaller ones are forgotten. On 2002-08-01 20:50, AnthonyA1971 wrote:

Do you have a good-sized collection? Mine is massive, I'm not kidding. This is going to take time. The good thing, I'll be sorting out my TOP 25 as I get it done.

Yes, it is. And again, an example of why I'm reorganizing. "1-2-3" is on a different label, one I don't remember off hand. Got to get this **** together. On 2002-08-01 21:26, maarten wrote:

I used to have about 5-6 thousand records. However, about 2 years ago or so, I began weeding thru the stuff I really didn't want/need/listen to. That left me with about 50 electro funk records, 10 disco records, 10 old rap records, 300+ old house & club records, and all my freestyle records which number about 3000 with doubles.

I have 1800 single title freestyle records, so it did take forever....no question about it.
If you want I can send you my list for the fun of it! I have 3 seperate ones though. One list has the artist, label & year. The other one has just the artist and label. Another has the artist and producer (which is halfway done...that was a recent project).
I made a seperate one for arists & year WITHOUT the label because when you open up the file (with artist/label/year), it comes accross as 2 lines, rather than 1 for each song. Leaving out the year at the end seems to correct that problem.

Hi Nicky! Sorry for the delayed response. Mark told me this weekend to get back on the Board because you had some good news for me. I was away for a week long seminar so last week I was playing "catch up" at work. Not pretty! On 2002-08-01 20:22, NickNack wrote:

Anyway, I knew you would be the one to figure out the song! THANK YOU so much!!! I previously saw Salazar had a "Never Gonna Let You Go" but I didn't think it was them because of their sound on "1-2-3".
Good luck on the reorganization! By the way, my copy of the Ann-Margaret tune is an import on Ram, which was released prior to the First American release in the U.S.
I'm glad I found the Salazar, too!. I am really into that song, again. You're also right about Ann-Margaret. I found the RAM release last night. Still working on those 'A's.On 2002-08-05 15:01, keefelc wrote:

Keefe & Nicky,
I'm hatin' to do this--BUT ya BOTH misspelled Ann-Margret's name. (Ann-Margaret!!!!)
I had to give Paul a lesson on spelling Barbra. Remember, Ann-Margret dropped an "a" also.
Just a little gay-friendly reminder.![]()

Hey Nicky, aren't you glad I bugged you about the Salazar? Don't you think it sounds like something that Jay Graydon or David Paitch would have produced? Thanks again for solving the mystery!
To Nicky: GOT ME!!!!
To Anthony: What, pray tell, were the "10 disco records" you kept?????!!!!!!

i have the david roberts album, but there isn't a lyric sheet. but i had to be sure,so i played the song and it doesn't seem to match your lyrics. this has a pop jazz feel ala christopher cross, with all the west coast musicians.
Thanks Mike, but Nicky found the record - Salazar "Never Gonna Let You Go" (see the messages that he posted last week). On 2002-08-05 23:41, california mike wrote:
