Rats. Wouldn't describe the movie as even being splashed with any disco flavor. Sorry.
Called "Turn the Beat Around" tonight Friday 2/26/10 on MTV at 9pm CST/Chicago,IL. I'll get it to my recorder for viewing later. I hope it'll be enjoyable. Post if you liked it or not, if you decided to watch it.

They didn't bash disco, and you have to figure they were looking at it from a different prism.
In the begining of the original disco movement, many songs were remakes of Big Band jazz and vocal standards from the 30's, 40's and 50's. It was my parent's music. A lot of the producers and performers of that time also grew up with those songs.
But it gradually evolved into our own. And the same thing may happen here. It may not be "true disco", but something new built out of disco. While the remakes of the songs in this movie may have lacked the heart and soul of the originals, you have to consider most folks know the originals and they were going for something new.
I commend Viacom. They are the parent company of MTV, VH1, CBS, Nickelodean, etc. They are a very disco friendly company. If you ever watch the programing on Nickelodean, you would see a lot of disco oriented shows, cartoons and commercials geared towards the young. And without any shame.
By the way, thank you for posting about it. I would not of known about it.
Great insight needlefingers, I appreciate the history. Guess I really had a taste for 'true disco' on movie night!
(With a different beat - if you don't mind me asking.) I enjoy visiting the website and would like to know if there might be any way I could find threads, references, people, etc. that make points to the local discos I enjoyed?
(e.g. The Poison Apple located in S. Park Forest, Illinois) It's south suburban Chicago area and that city has since been renamed!
There is a club section here at Discomusic.com...
Discotheques and Night Clubs from the 70s & 80s: DiscoMusic.com
If you can't find your clubs, Bernie would appreciate it if you add them to the list.
You can also start your own thread in the Disco music forum asking if others remember "so and so" club(s).
Also try a google search of the club. Add the words "message boards" to your search.
