Thumbs up New Change release - "Change Your Mind" 2009/2010

I believe this is fairly new, just came across this while web surfing the other day..

    1. FRIENDS
    2. WAY YOU WANT ME
    3. IF ONLY I COULD CHANGE YOUR MIND
    4. THINGS WE DO FOR LOVE
    5. TIME FOR US (FEAT. MIKE FRANCIS)
    6. I WANT YOU
    7. SAY WHAT YOU WANNA SAY
    8. SELLIN' OUT
    9. LOSING ME AGAIN
    10. PUSSY CAT
    11. HAPPY ENDING
    12. SUPERSTITION (BONUS TRACK)
    13. LET'S GO TOGETHER (PAUL HARDCASTLE REMIX) (BONUS TRACK)

Here's a review from The Ultimate Soul And Funk Music Site! -

"The eigthies group change released a new album 'Change Your Mind'. This thirteen track album consist of slow jams and down/mid tempo songs. Some of them are remakes of seventies and eighties tunes. For example the song "Friends" previous done by Mike Francis is one of them. Another remake is Marvin Gayes "I want you" with lead vocals of Mike Francis. Another remake is Superstition, great tune. This album is musically very smooth. It sounds like the eigthies (pussy cat), nineties. As bonus track the Paul Hardcastle Remix of Let's go together is included .

(Track snippets can be found on Soul & Funk Music.com)

I like a couple of the songs, and of course "Let's Go Together" is one of my favorites! But listen for yourself and let me know how you think this release stacks up against their great history.

The album is available on iTunes also. I listened to most of the tracks but they didn't do much for me, maybe just the title track. And of course Let's Go Together, but that one doesnt't count haha. I wonder who's behind this incarnation of Change and if David Romani and Mauro Malavasi had anything to do with it.

That's what I'm wondering. Change wasn't a group at all, but a phantom-band, with Jacques Fred Petrus being the only common thread between the albums written and produced by Malavasi and the one produced by Jam and Lewis. As Petrus has been dead for years, who is deciding who Change is now?

It's kind of like the Ritchie Family, where the final album has absolutely nothing in common with the first. But at least there was an evolution happening there. I don't see how Change can be resurrected at this point.

This album isn't yet on discogs.com and I can't find any information on who is behind it... not that I've looked very hard, mind you.

Well Google helped out... according to this link: BENTLEYFUNK - THE BLACK MUSIC PARADISE: Change / 2010 / change your mind
it's a Davide Romani and Francesco Puccioni production. So at least there's some link with the orginal Change.

I agree with you about the Ritchie Family though I much prefer the Vera Brown-led incarnation (American Generation and later) to the original group, as I go for a funkier, grittier sound, but that's just me :-) My all-time favorite RF track is definitely "Give Me A Break".

I guess that's fair. The only people who could really claim the name now are Romani and Malavasi (or Jam & Lewis, but they're now more famous than Change anyway).

Still, it strikes me as odd to resurrect the group's name now. Does anyone outside of this board even remember them? Sure, "The Glow of Love" still gets played, but I would imagine that by this point, more people associate it with Luther Vandross than Change.

In Europe, the "later" Change was more popular than in North America. Here (in Holland for example), people associate them more with "Change Of Heart", "Let's Go Together" or even "A Lover's Holiday", these still get regular airplay here on mainstream radio stations, whereas "The Glow Of Love" and "Searching" never do. I know that not many people are aware of the link between Change and Luther Vandross. Luther wasn't big in Europe at all apart from the UK...

'Lovers Holiday' was from their first LP, definitely the 'early' Change.

Yes I knew that, thanks, but what I meant to say is that Lover's Holiday still gets airplay whereas GOL/Searchin don't.

Atleast one member wants to issue an album of new songs. They don't want you to know who's in it. In 1990, Shalamar did the same thing but where was Howard Hewett, Jody Watley, or even Jeffrey Daniels.
