Don't know about a Tom Moulton mix, but there is a nice instrumental that clocks in at 6:42 on the following CD:

Rumours there's an 18 minute version. Anyone know of it/heard it/is it available?

I was about to say I heard it on SoundCloud! Very nice, if a tad too long. I actually prefer the 7 minute single to the original 12 minute album version (a rarity for me, as I generally prefer longer stuff). But Moulton did his funky magic.
Early in the morning of September 5, 2010, a radio station in NYC had the honor of hosting Mr. Moulton at their station. Wow! I was traveling from Mass to VA and had the opportunity to listen to most of the interview. Mr. Moulton impressed me and basically is the founder of mixing and making longer versions of songs. He explained the entire situation of how Papa Was a Rolling Stone originated and his history of mixing music. They played the song that night on the radio. I have been thinking about the interview off and on. Tonight on the local oldies radio station played Papa Was a Rolling Stone, the original version. So I thought maybe I would look online to see if it is available in the 18" version. Thanks for this forum. I appreciate all your efforts and keeping Tom Moulton's work alive.
Well, it's already been confirmed, lol Thing is there's more, DiscoMusic.com's very own member DJ Jay Negron had Mr. Moulton on his Saturday night internet show on "Disco935" several weeks ago, on which he played several unreleased or unknown remixes by Tom, which not only included the "Papa was a Rolling Stone" but "It's a Shame" by the Spinners, "Point of No Return" by the Stylistics and "I Want You For Myself" by George Duke"! To me, all great re-edits, hopefully soon they'll see the light of day, I know I want them! If you want to listen to the entire 4 hr interview, you can find the links in this thread.
