I'm not Brazilian but George Duke fused R&B, jazz, and Brazilian rhythms on A Brazilian Love Affair released in 1979. It should be of interest and was quite popular so if you ask a question like this, you probably have enountered it.
I've already seen several Brazilians here in the forum, which is perfect for my question. Since I am a big fan of Brazilian music in general, could you name your favorite albums of 1970s Brazilian groove? This is still rather white space in my medium-level knowledge about 1970s music. Often this music seems to be quite hidden since some albums perhaps didn't even make it to the US officially. Two examples I know of are Azymuth - Azimüth (1975) or Banda Black Rio - Maria Fumaça (1977). Obrigado!

My pleasure Bernie.
Most of the artists I listed are Brasilian musicians who recorded in the US so the records/cds can be found on the net. What is harder to find is this type of music actually recorded and released in Brasil. I think Papete and Banda Black Rio are examples of this although re-issues + compilations have been put out in the US and UK.
If anyone can recommend artists + records from Brasil, please post as I'm all ears !

Baby, take me

Thats a couple of great tunes Remicks !
I know of 3 lps by Banda Black Rio - Maria Fumaca, Gafieiera Universal and Saci Perere which includes the tune Miss Cheryl which was a big jazz funk tune in the UK bitd. They remind of early Earth, Wind and Fire ie a mix of soul, funk and jazz but with a Brasilian feel. I think they reformed in recent years.
Diskos - there are a few other artists I've thought of - Hector Costita, Manfredo Fest, Tonihno Horta and Arthur Verocai.
Also check out whatmusic.com as they have re-released some rare music over the last few years although most seems to be from the 60s
Finally Far Out have issues loads of new music in recent years which you may like
Another great instrumental song from 70s is ''porto'' by MPB-4
