a record store, Rasputin's Music in Berkeley California has been giving away records for free all this past week, even going so far as to put boxes and boxes of records on the sidewalk outside the store when the weather's good. Not many classics of course, and many of the records aren't in good condition, but digging through them is fun and in my opinion, worth it for the inner sleeves and outer covers alone. I found one that was interesting called "I Do Pt. 2" by an artist named Toya on Arista Records that takes Peter Brown's disco funk classic "Do You Wanna Get Funky With Me" and puts it in a modern R & B context. I also found El Coco's "Cocomotion" but it's not in good shape. I wish more stores would do this instead of stubbornly trying to sell music that no one is going to buy at any price.....1/29/2010
