    MOTOWN /PHILLY INT QUIZ

the last quiz i posted i had some tough questions and changed my mind at the last minute thinking they may have been too difficult and posted different questions, but cant help wondering if some clever person would have gotten them so heres 2

    MOTOWN
marvin gaye loved the ladies and also loved to duet with them,in 1964 when mary wells left for 20th century records motown recruited a new girl to duet with marvin, all tracks were never released at the time though 4 tracks have seen the light of day on c.d/cassette since, what was her name?

    PHILLY INT
Iin 1977 philly int released "lets clean up the ghetto" single and album, what was this project about, also something was on offer what was it?

Well, DD...I recall Kim Weston duetting with Mr. Gaye on "It Takes Two" before he hooked up with Miss Tammi Terrell. Is that who you mean?

The "Let's Clean Up The Ghetto" project combined the voices of lotsa Philadelphia Intl. Stars (Lou Rawls, Teddy Pendergrass, Billy Paul, several O'Jays, etc. ) on a record that was to raise money for charity. Not sure which charity.

I'm thinking Mary Wells as Marvin's duet partner.

As for LCUTG, the money was slated to be used for "community development" projects. Not just cleaning the ghettos in the soap-and-water sense, but enriching the minds of the young through education. I believe it was an effort to bring a sense of self-worth, pride and faith to a people trapped in some pretty vile neighborhoods.

no NICKY this girl came between mary and kim but as i said tracks were shelved, the answer to this can be found in marvins BIG BIG 1990 u.s only box set-the marvin gaye collection.

re philly yes NICKY you win, youre as near as well get,now i remember why i withdrew this question last time, thinking theres probibly gonna be 100versions of the story[and im not saying im 100% correct],what i remember reading about this[and that depends weather that source was correct, but it was a good mag] philly organised a get up off your ass and do something about it type thing, open to all america, like lets clean it up!the community/city that got the best results won a cash prize $250,000 comes to mind but im not sure, and that was to be used in the community, one of the reasons i wanted to ask this was because i never saw any follow up so WHO WON?? and did philly int cough up the cash, ive always wanted to know  BUT i DID hear somebody in ST OLAF polished the steps of the church hall, and they were a shinin' like the stars

Hi Discodisk: Oma Page is the missing partner. Whatever happened to her and what's the story behind why it didn't work out as a duet?

Oma Page --- never heard of this lady. Did she ever release anything on her own or did Motown keep her hidden?

no NICKY it seems that was it for her,as i said those tracks came out on the marvin gaye collection 4 c.d set from 1990 it was really limited and even then not everyone had c.ds so its a bit rare,if you can find one its crammed full of unreleased stuff thats still keeping the northern soul crowd happy to this day,you see the cassette version now and again on e.bay but i only saw the c.d set there once,i was really lucky as my brother was in new york at the time and made him search everywhere for one,i dont think he had time to visit the empire state building but he did have a nice flight
and oma maybee shes still in the motown vault :o

Blown-away or knocked-out in a shocked kind of way.

    A Liverpool expression.

    Good for Oma!
