    Gregg diamond

Hey everyone.I have in the last few months become obsessed with Gregg Diamond. I first came into contact with him (unwittingly) when I 1st got into disco with "More More More". Then came "We Can Start All Over Again" by Gloria Gaynor (still one of my favs). Then I read "Saturday Night Forever" by Alan Jones and Jussi and saw the cover for Bionic Boogie. Then the pivotal moment of my infatuation was youtube.I LOVE his music.I only own their debut lp and a coupla compilation trax of Bionic Boogies. But I would LOVE to hear peoples experiences thoughts and information of Gregg Diamond.:icon_cool:

The first two Bionic Boogie albums (the latter with a pile of remixes), as well as his Starcruiser album on TK are essential. Also quite worthy is the "Danger" 12" single.

I didn't care much for Hardware or the third Bionic Boogie album. I've got one other album produced by him for another artist, although it escapes me right now.

The 12" versions of Starcruiser/This Side of Midnight are merely re-edits of the album versions, so you're not missing much there.

Much rarer is the 12" of "Risky Changes", which is the full-length version. The album version is an edit of this. It originally appeared on a now-VERY-rare promo 12", but PolyGram briefly issued it commercially as a 12" in the 80s (and unlike many reissues, this one was an excellent pressing).

There are a whole slew of remixes for the Hot Butterfly album, and sorting them out is rather confusing. There was a botched-and-recalled promo, plus one mix which apparently only existed on acetate until it somehow Unidisc got a hold of it, and quietly put it on a compilation in the 90s.

Bruno, do you have any additional info on this release, I never knew there was a 3rd LP from Bionic Boogie, and I can't seem to find any info on it...yet anyway.

    thx!

I finally remembered the other artist: George McCrae and the album is Diamond Touch.

George McCrae Diamond Touch (LP): Vinyl Records @ DiscoMusic.com

Not one of the better Diamond-produced releases, unfortunately.

It's not often that I advise against buying licensed product, but I feel obligated to warn people about this one. The sound quality on this disc is quite bad, with many of the tracks are sourced from poorly-done needle-drops. Anyone with a half-decent cartridge could get far better sound with the original vinyl.

As posted earlier, the title is Tiger Tiger and it's... rather lackluster IMHO; nowhere near as great as the first two or Starcruiser. Also there are no remixes from this AFAIK; the promo 12" has only the LP versions.

Hey Bruno, you have to agree that "Love In Motion" however, is vintage GD..I personally love this record but know it's different strokes where it comes to the album. I think it's worth having..

I actually quite like the Hardware LP. The vocals are a bit strange but the music is typical top-notch Diamond IMO. I play '1/8th Of Your Love' & 'Greyhound Bus' all the time in the car - great driving music!:icon_razz:

Oh isn't Glenn's restructure fab? He's so clever. I remember watching that movie about the super futuristic bus when i was a kid & loving it so I was doubly pleased to see it set to Gregg Diamond's fab music.:icon_biggrin:

I have a 12" remix of "Risky Changes", it's included on a 3 song Unidisc (SP5 1570). It's 7:13 and I love the sound quality. The other 2 songs are "Chains" (6:43) and a slightly remixed version of "Hot Butterfly" (8:21), longer than the original album version and a few of Luther Vandross' vocal lines are different. Diamond remains one of my favorite producers. His sound was bright and brassy. The "More More More" and "Star Cruiser" albums are my favorite works of his though I also like his work with Gloria Gaynor. Many people run down the album he did with George McCrae but I sure prefer it to McCrae's work with KC and the Sunshine Band, though it was less commerically successful. And the version of his "Most of All" included on Saint Tropez' "Belle du Jour" is truly beautiful. I'd also be interested in hearing his work with Jobriath, especially if he wrote some of the singer's songs. I wonder if Diamond has any unreleased music.....maybe his brothers would know. 1/25/2010

"Tiger Tiger" kinda reminds me of the "Hardware" album musically....I'm pretty sure Diamond was trying to distance himself from disco a little on that album. But the album's extended funk jam "Take the Boogie Home" sure surprised me when I heard it...it made me think Diamond was possibly thinking about his days with James Brown when he did that song. It's also the funkiest song I ever heard Luther Vandross sing....lots and lots of poppin' bass and soulful clavinet. 1/25/2010

That wouldn't be a remix, but the full-length version of the song. Originally only on the Polydor promo 12" PRO-036. The album version is an edit of this.

greggphoto.JPGI'm glad I didn't start a whole new thread. I am still very into Gregg. I just wish I knew more about him. I have contacted several people who worked with him, but none are forthcoming with information. Which is their right. However being a big fan I would like to know what he was like, what he did in the 80s and 90s, just a bit of personal information. There is very little on the net, except that he was a member of Jobriath, trained at Berkeley, and of course worked with some dreamy names like Luther Vandross and Andrea True. Any one have anything?
Ok found an interesting article on Gregg in his Jobriath days: http://www.newmillenniumrecords.com/indulgence.html
