Thanks for posting Kris !
I'll be buying these !
Someone just sent me this information.
Gold Legion has teamed up with Universal Music to release 2 of Casablanca Records' Giorgio Moroder-produced Lps on CD. Roberta Kelly's Zodiac Lady and Munich Machine's debut Lp are now available.
The releases include the original artwork, liner notes and the Casablanca logo. More importantly - they've been remastered.

Nice!
Support them, people....can't say it enough. Companies like this, or like ours (Funky Town Grooves | Rare 80s Soul, Funk, Jazz & Hip Hop) can only survive if we actually make a purchase.
Be proactive- contact them- give some support. Give them suggestions and a little encouragement?

Awesome news!
thanks for the post, I'll be purchasing these as well.

So good to hear of re-master/re-issue companies dipping into the Sound of Munich's material.
So looking forward to hearing the re-mastered 'Zodiacs'.

True. I wonder how these small companies can live. Who are the record buyers they have in mind? People like us, even if generally we already have the lp? Bonus tracks (additional mixes, unreleased songs) or a full booklet with extensive liner notes are of course good reasons to buy the cd (like in Motown re-issues or FTG's Kellee Patterson album released at the end of the month) .
Compare two companies. The revived Casablanca (of a few years ago) and ours. Tommy Mottola was hired at a near 7 figure salary. He then proceeded to pick an office in an expensive property and furnish it with incredibly expensive goods. He hired a press person just to let everybody know just how much he had spent. He hired a staff. At that level of initial investment you HAVE to sell incredible amounts just to keep the doors open.
Compare that with FTG USA which was launched out of my bedroom. I incur no additional costs with rental. I am the sole employee. There are 2 guys in the UK (with a provisional worker)- they operate out of an industrial park area. They had no air conditioner until late this past summer. They built their shelving.
After a year of working on a broken down desk- I am about to get a new one so that I can keep the equipment laid out for use- instead of boxing and unboxing as needed. But I know my stuff, you see? I can do more than one thing well. Quite factually I do the job that Mottola would have had to pay 6 salaried employees for- including himself. We 3 (sometimes 4) do the job of an average big-label reissue department with about a dozen employees. And we do it in two countries. In other words....what I just said about a dozen employees? TIMES TWO. Because we work. Today I wrote here, twittered, scanned covers, took calls, wrote production notes. The day is not over....and in America this is a holiday. Understand?
We are nearing the point where I may have to relocate because of space.
I may even have to hire a part time person to help with manual tasks. But we are not quite there yet.
That is how you survive, better yet- that is how you build.
You start small, spend small, put every dollar to the CD's. You dont dig a money pit and then hope to fill it.
And we could not hope to fill it with the small amounts that we sell. A larger title for us is 3000 copies. Hell- that's a runaway SMASH to be honest. And we've only had two of those. But things are getting better here and there. Less three hundreds....more eleven hundreds. Enough to keep us going.
You talk to the people. Let them know what you are selling. We dont have a press person did you know that? When you find out about us it is because one of us has reached out to you on a website like this one, facebook, twitter or maybe just handed you a flyer. Maybe you saw us on ebay? Amazon? The internet is a wonderful thing. You can potentially reach millions if everything works properly. Sometimes all at once, sometimes one at a time.
I am a music fan, first. Not an accountant. Not an interchangable "businessman"- running a record company one day and a pretzel company the next. I LOVE MUSIC. And that is where it all starts.........![]()

Mine arrived today. Just listened. These are nice, inexpensive CDs. Terrific to own for the GREAT music and the artwork. Great to have them out for real and not on "Russian" bootleg.
I hope they graduate to doing two-fers and/or having 12" mixes (when appropriate).
Some minor cosmetic issues- but I wont quibble, everybody gets to start, everybody gets to grow.
All in all...a nice start. They should be proud.

(Ok, ok..........I gotta bust chops here. Why does the spine of Roberta Kelly say "Zodia Lady"?, I didnt wanna say it- it winds up as "the guy from one label talking about the other label".....but then I remembered I paid for these...and I have been supportive. Thus as a consumer, I get to say something.)

Just ordered these. I have to say I'm curious why they chose these to start with--I was only gonna get Munich Machine, since I own the rare, non bootleg Troublemaker/Zodiakc that was out very briefly (I never got the same label's release of the first two Munich Machine albums), but I decided I wanted to hear it remastered (the original release obviously isn't) and to support them.
Both my CDs came today from LegionGold direct (who included a 10% discount for being on the Moroder mailing list!) They sound *terrific* The Roberta Kelly sounds noticeably better than the previous CD release (although I'll hold onto that because it included TroubleMaker) so glad to have these and hope they'll lead to more.
One complaint--and I hate to complain, but... It's nice to have liner notes, BUT could someone PLEASE proofread them? Both are riddled with repeated words, typos (like "their" being spelled "there") and odd turn of phrases that I'd expect in a Japanese release (like those great 3Degree/Moroder reissues from last year) but not here. Gold Legion, email the notes to me first and I'll do it for free :P
And we're getting more Moroder as well as some Paul Jabara!
http://www.goldlegion.com/
Paul Jabara - The Third Album - April 6th
Roberta Kelly - Trouble-Maker - April 22nd
Munich Machine - A Whiter Shade Of Pale - April 22nd
Chris & Giorgio - Love's In You, Love's In Me - April 29th
Paul Jabara - Keeping Time - May 18th
No extra tracks though, but if the sound is as good, and the price as low as before, I'm not complaining.
Hi:
We must support them.
They even made an international phone to call (I live in Brazil) just to thank my support and to inform and apologize the delay in sending some itens.
This is what I call an excelent customer service.
Hope they can re-realese some other disco CD in near future.
Cheers,
Cheers,
Hessel

Yes, I got a call from Greg as well. Apologised for the delay and we had a brief chat on what they were looking to do in the future. They're thinking about possible compilations and welcome "wants lists". Future releases are not restricted to Casablanca. I hope it comes of for them as they seem genuine. I agree with Hessel. Give them some support.
I also received a call out of the blue yesterday & i live in the UK! The guy was lovely & it's made me want to support their product even more. Can't wait to see whats next.
What was the reason given for the delay? As a manufacturer I suffered through the same thing with Pattie Brooks. I Will suffer the same thing with Bionic Boogie.
Just curious if they actually told you the reason because nobody who posted so far has said what the reason was......?

mistakes like those would sure make me suspicious about the "authenticity" of these releases but if people are otherwise happy with them.....I'm not really very interested since those are not high on the list of titles I'd want anyway but I own several of the vinyl releases already and will just have to be happy with my CDr copies.
Thanks Danny. I think the real point is they contacted you, they followed up with a phone call which is a very, very classy thing to do (and time consuming) and they should be commended for that.
I just hope that someone high up on the Universal food chain is keeping track of all the labels (Gold Legion, Cherry Pop, Reel Music, FTG) that have had to announce delays because of Universal procedures....?

The Munich Machine cd arrived today. Have just listened to "Funk Train" and was blown away. Excellent sound quality to my ears. Hope they can find their feet and build a catalogue. Future titles look like having some bonus tracks included. I've pre-ordered another couple due for August. If they can crack the distribution side, I reckon they're here for keeps.
DId your copy have the new liner notes or the crap original ones?
Wow--just saw that they added stuff like Vicki Sue Robinson, France Joli - Attitude and Suzi Lane (!) to their site.
Liner notes were a bit sparse. Two pages of "All aboard the Funk Train" written by Christian John Wikane. Hopefully, the liner notes will expand with their catalogue? I'm happy at the price I paid. Basically, I got brilliant sound quality on a cd I've never seen available before. It came in at less than £10, including shipping to UK. I've got the "Whiter Shade of Pale" coming over next. Gregg at Gold Legion has mailed, singing the praises of the artwork. They've got some pictures "then and now" of some of the artists. Suggests to me that they're already looking at liner notes. Time will tell.
